SPRING JAMBOREE: Williams fires shutout to lead Panthers to win

Rachel Williams tossed a three-hit shutout Thursday to lead Palo Verde’s softball team to a 3-0 win over Brawley (Calif.) in the Spring Jamboree at Majestic Park.

The Panthers broke a scoreless tie with two runs in the fourth and tacked on a run in the fifth to top the Wildcats.

Kiley Harrison, Rachael Turner, Lauren Oxford and Brooke Stover each went 2-for-3 for Palo Verde.

Palo Verde 13, Port of Los Angeles (Calif.) 4 — Melissa Lacro’s grand slam highlighted a seven-run fourth inning that capped the Panthers’ four-inning win over the Polar Bears.

Breanna Beatty was 2-for-3 with a home run, and Haley Harrison was 2-for-3 for Palo Verde, which also got a home run from Turner.

Liberty 5, Chaminade (Calif.) 5 — Consecutive two-run doubles by Ashleigh Rodriguez and Tiana Tapuala highlighted a five-run fourth inning that allowed the Patriots to tie the Eagles in a game called after five innings due to a tournament time limit.

Liberty trailed 3-0 before the five-run spurt, but Chaminade scored twice in the fifth — on a leadoff home run by Cayman Coughlin and on a two-out error.

Tapuala and Breanna Alvarez each went 2-for-3 for Liberty.

Coughlin was 2-for-3 with two homers and three RBIs for Chaminade.

Chaminade (Calif.) 3, Lincoln County 2 — The Lynx scored twice in the fourth inning, but came up short in a four-inning loss to the Eagles.

Coronado 4, Marshall (Calif.) 4 — Danielle Amato’s grand slam in the fifth inning rallied the Cougars from a 2-0 hole, but the Barristers scored twice in the sixth to earn a time-limit tie.

Amato and Jaiden Johnson each went 2-for-3 for Coronado.

Coronado 18, Harbor Teacher Prep (Calif.) 1 — Basia Query was 4-for-4 with a home run, two doubles and six RBIs as the Cougars routed the Monarchs in four innings.

Amato was 4-for-4 with a double and three RBIs, and Katie Dawson went 2-for-3 with a home run, a double and three RBIs for Coronado, which also got a home run from Dylan Underwood.

Green Valley 12, Bell (Calif.) 0 — Fenixx Henderson tossed a five-inning three-hitter as the Gators routed the Eagles.

Sam Loving was 2-for-4 with three RBIs, and Amber Calderon went 2-for-2 with two RBIs for Green Valley, which led 6-0 after one inning.

Henderson went 2-for-3 with an RBI, and Jinger Meuir was 2-for-4 for the Gators.

Pleasant Grove (Utah) 6, Green Valley 5 — Lexi Richards allowed just one hit as the Vikings edged the Gators in five innings.

Carly Burdette was 2-for-3 for Pleasant Grove.

Rancho 4, River Valley (Ariz.) 0 — Samantha Pochop spun a six-inning shutout and struck out 11 to lead the Rams by the Dust Devils.

Kayla Coles had a two-run single in the first inning and drove in a run with a squeeze bunt in the sixth for Rancho.

Rancho 2, Beckman (Calif.) 2 — Coles drew a bases-loaded walk to force in Sammi Llamas with the tying run in the bottom of the fifth inning as the Rams and Patriots played to a five-inning tie.

Llamas was 2-for-2 with an RBI for Rancho.

Centennial 9, Garfield (Calif.) 0 — Angel Love went 2-for-4 with a double, and the Bulldogs scored all of their runs in the first two innings.

Maddie Jones tossed a four-hit shutout for Centennial.

Centennial 4, Maranatha (Calif.) 1 — Love’s two-run single in the bottom of the fifth broke a 1-1 tie and lifted the Bulldogs by the Minutemen in six innings.

Love and Savannah Horvath each had two hits and two RBIs, and Lina Barrera added a double and a single for Centennial.

Cheyenne Cudahy tossed a three-hitter to get the win.

Centennial (Calif.) 13, Durango 1 — The Golden Hawks used a seven-run fifth inning to pull away from the Trailblazers.

Cheyanne Haas was 2-for-3 for Durango.

Durango 11, Fernley 4 — Kennedy Gallegos was 3-for-3 with a double as the Trailblazers topped the Vaqueros.

Dallas Boyce was 3-for-4 with a double, and Kaitlyn O’Hearn went 2-for-3 with a double for Durango.

Fallbrook (Calif.) 7, Pahrump Valley 3 — Brooke Koran and Veronica Lowry combined on a four-hitter to lead the Warriors by the Trojans.

Deliah Polnau had two hits for Pahrump.

Schurr (Calif.) 1, Pahrump Valley 0 — The Spartans got only two hits — both doubles — but used a fourth-inning run to nip the Trojans.

Whitney Roderick threw the five-inning two-hitter for Pahrump.

Carson (Calif.) 9, Desert Oasis 4 — Mary Dungey and Meagan Anders had run-scoring doubles in the Diamondbacks’ five-inning loss to the Colts.

Karly Severance and May Dacquel added RBI singles as part of Desert Oasis’ three-run fifth inning.

Aniesa Maulupe hit a two-run home run in the third inning to help give Carson a 3-1 lead.

Southwest (Calif.) 10, Desert Oasis 4 — Anders and Severance hit solo home runs in the first inning for the Diamondbacks in their five-inning loss to the Eagles.

Elsy Guzman had a double for Desert Oasis.

Southwest sent 13 batters to the plate in the bottom of the first and took advantage of five hits, two walks and two hit by pitches to score eight runs.

Birmingham (Calif.) 15, Basic 4 — Paige Blake went 2-for-2 with a double in the Wolves’ five-inning loss to the Patriots.

Lesley Segura had a home run and a double, and Leslie Ramirez also homered for Birmingham, which scored seven runs in the third inning to take a 10-1 lead.

Mingus (Ariz.) 6, Basic 2 — Blake went 2-for-3 with a double, but the Wolves lost to the Marauders in’ five innings.

Britney Green added a run-scoring single in the bottom of the fifth for Basic.

Amber Rippy went 3-for-3 with two doubles and scored three runs, and Taylor Bailey added a two-run single as part of Mingus’ four-run fourth inning.

Cantwell-Sacred Heart of Mary (Calif.) 5, Cimarron-Memorial 0 — Amanda Garcia spun a six-hitter as the Cardinals downed the Spartans in six innings.

Rosie Del Rosario was 2-for-3, and Carmen Hasbrouck was 2-for-4 for Cimarron.

Banning (Calif.) 5, Cimarron-Memorial 2 — The Pilots rode a three-run first inning to a six-inning victory.

Hasbrouck had two hits, including a double, and Sarah Murphy had two hits for Cimarron.

El Camino Real (Calif.) 16, Cheyenne 0 — Dayna DeBlasi was 3-for-3 with a home run, two runs and three RBIs as the Conquistadors routed the Desert Shields in four innings.

Zoe Shaw was 3-for-3 with a double, three runs and three RBIs for El Camino Real, which scored 11 runs in the first inning.

San Fernando (Calif.) 8, Cheyenne 4 — The Tigers broke open a close game with four runs in the fourth inning and downed the Desert Shields in five innings.

Destiny Gain was 2-for-2 with a home run, a double, two runs and two RBIs for Cheyenne.
