SOFTBALL: Valentine’s no-hitter sends Trailblazers by Longhorns

Trinity Valentine tossed a no-hitter Thursday to lead host Durango’s softball team to a 5-0 win over Legacy.

Valentine struck out 10 and walked one.

Kaitlyn O’Hearn homered for the Trailblazers, who broke open the game with a three-run fifth inning.

The Longhorns were no-hit for the fifth time in 12 games this season.

Foothill 9, Green Valley 0 — At Foothill, Sarah Penksa tossed a one-hitter and struck out four as the Falcons blanked the Gators.

Kylie Becker was 3-for-4 with two RBIs, and Alexis Farias tripled and had two RBIs for Foothill, which got a home run from Jordan Corn.

Valley 21, Canyon Springs 0 — At Canyon Springs, Kristina Manthei and Jaeda Burnett combined on a five-inning no-hitter as the Vikings blasted the Pioneers.

Manthei, who struck out 10 in four innings of work, also had three triples and drove in five runs for Valley.

Chaparral 8, Moapa Valley 2 — At Chaparral, Alex Montoya was 2-for-4 with two doubles to help the Cowboys top the Pirates.

Crystal Clark was 2-for-2 with two runs, and Justine Villa was 2-for-3 for Chaparral.

Losi Brown tossed a three-hitter and struck out two for the Cowboys.

Liberty 8, Las Vegas 1 — At Las Vegas, Kiana Hoapili had two hits, including a double, to help the Patriots top the Wildcats.

Morgan LaNeve added two hits for Liberty.

Brianna Yannis and Ashleigh Rodriguez combined on a three-hitter for the Patriots.

Boulder City 10, Tech 1 — At Rodeo Park, Jordan Moorhead spun a five-hitter and struck out nine to lead the Eagles by the Roadrunners.

Jeanne Carmell was 2-for-2, and Alyssa Ybarra had two hits for Boulder City, which scored four runs in the top of the first inning.

Julia Lopez was 2-for-3 for Tech.

Palo Verde 11, Cimarron-Memorial 1 — At Palo Verde, Jordan Menke’s three-run homer keyed an eight-run second inning that helped the Panthers top the Spartans in five innings.

Kali Tomlinson was 2-for-3 with a double, and Makall Whetten went 2-for-4 for Palo Verde.

Sunrise Mountain 11, Del Sol 1 — At Sunrise Mountain, Arieonna Herrera went 3-for-3 with two runs to help the Miners down the Dragons in five innings.

Rebecca Ramirez was 2-for-2 with two runs, and teammate Brittany Miller went 2-for-4 with a double and three RBIs for Sunrise Mountain, which scored seven runs in the fourth to break a 1-1 tie.

Andrea Garner threw a two-hitter with seven strikeouts and one walk for the Miners.

Virgin Valley 14, Desert Pines 3 — At Mesquite, Tylee Robison had three hits, including a double, to lead the Bulldogs by the Jaguars in five innings.

Adri Wakefield and Emma Barnum combined on a five-hitter for Virgin Valley.

Silverado 12, Eldorado 0 — At Eldorado, Korina Pindel had three hits and three RBIs, and the Skyhawks used two six-run innings to top the Sundevils in five innings.

Karissa Jones added two hits and an RBI for Silverado.

Gabby Santiago and Hanna McCall combined on a two-hitter for the Skyhawks.

Etiwanda (Calif.) 2, Coronado 0 — At Coronado, Briana Wheeler tossed a four-hitter and struck out 12 to lead the Eagles by the Cougars.

Jillian James was 1-for-2 with a double for Coronado. Sarah Pinkston spun a three-hitter and struck out five for Coronado.

White Pine 20-20, The Meadows 0-0 — At The Meadows, winning pitcher McKenna Windous went 2-for-2 with a triple and four RBIs in the opener as the Bobcats swept a pair of five-inning games from the Mustangs.

Britney Kingston was 1-for-1 with a triple and three RBIs in the opener for White Pine.

In the nightcap, the Bobcats scored 16 runs in the top of the first inning.

Noelle Young went 2-for-2 in the second game for The Meadows.
