SOFTBALL: Jillian James’ gem powers Coronado by Centennial

Jillian James spun a two-hit shutout while striking out 10 Friday to lead the Coronado softball team to a 9-0 win over Centennial in the Tournament of Champions at Bullhead City, Arizona.

Taylor Okamura went 2-for-3 with a solo home run to lead the Cougars offense. Veronica Jarchow tripled, and James drove in two runs for Coronado.

Palo Verde 17, Douglas 2 — At Bullhead City, Ariz., Grace Chavez went 4-for-4 with a double and five RBIs to lead the Panthers past the Tigers in the Tournament of Champions.

Ally Snelling had a double, a home run and three RBIs, Richmond Garcia had a home run and three RBIs, and Jessica Nimmo had two doubles for the Panthers.

Makena Martin struck out three over four innings to pick up the win.

Palo Verde 14, Rio Ranch (N.M.) 2 — At Bullhead City, Ariz., Martin went 3-for-3 with two home runs and three RBI to lead the Panthers past the Rams in the Tournament of Champions.

Mackenzie Ryan went 2-for-2 with two home runs and two RBI, Makall Whetten and Garcia each homered, and Chavez went 3-for-3 for the Panthers.

Taylor Askland fanned six over five innings to pick up the win.

Foothill 3, El Modena (Calif.) 2 — At Bullhead City, Arizona, Haleigh Olive knocked in the winning run in the sixth inning to lift the Falcons over the Vanguards in the Tournament of Champions.

Caitlyn Stevenson went 2-for-4 with a home run and a double. Olive finished 2-for-3.

Shadow Ridge 4, Freedom (Calif.) 2 — At Bullhead City, Arizona, Samantha Milanovich was 2-for-3 with a solo home run as the Mustangs defeated the Falcons in the Tournament of Champions.

Caitlyn Covington also hit a two-run home run, and Shea Clements hit a solo home run for the Mustangs, and Shelbi Denman earned the victory.

Freedom’s Vannessa Strong and Faith Derby each hit solo home runs.

Mission Viejo (Calif.) 5, Shadow Ridge 4 — At Bullhead City, Arizona, two errors by the Mustangs led to four unearned runs and a victory by the Diablos in the Tournament of Champions.

Shea Clements went 2-for-3 for the Mustangs.

Roosevelt (Calif.) 3, Coronado 0 — At Bullhead City, Arizona, the Cougars were limited to one hit and fell to the Mustangs in the Tournament of Champions.

Herriman (Utah) 4, Centennial 1 — At Bullhead City, Arizona, the Mustangs scored three runs in the third inning en route to the win in the Tournament of Champions.

Maddie Kallfelz was 2-for-3 for Centennial.

Green Valley 20, Cottonwood (Utah) 5 — At St. George, Utah, Alexa Blazek went 3-for-4 with two doubles and four RBIs to power the Gators over the Colts in the March Warm-Up Tournament.

Gennie Simington had a double and four RBIs, and Andrea Mason and Alexandria Frayer each doubled for the Gators.

Green Valley 17, Idaho Falls (Idaho) 1 — At St. George, Utah, Jalen Jones went 2-for-4 with a homer to lift the Gators over the Tigers in the March Warm-Up Tournament.

Blazek had a triple for Green Valley, and Cinthia Garcia and Tyre Hilton each doubled.

Cyprus (Utah) 12, Green Valley 8 — At St. George, Utah, Blazek had a double and three RBIs, but the Gators fell to the Pirates in the March Warm-Up Tournament.

Brooke Haney and Simington each had a pair of RBIs.

Bishop Gorman 10, Woods Cross (Utah) 6 — At Gorman, Mia Weckel’s 3-for-3 day helped the Gaels take down the Wildcats in the Kick Off the Season Tournament.

Alyssa Rueda had a double for the Gaels.

Farmington (N.M.) 5, Bishop Gorman 2 — At Gorman, Monique Passalacqua went 2-for-3 with a double and a walk, but the Gaels fell to the Scorpions in the Kick Off the Season Tournament.

Mallory Greenwood pitched a complete for the Gaels.

Farmington’s Abby Daniele went 3-for-3.

Bishop Manogue 10, Rancho 2 — At Doc Romeo Park, Sam Pochop went 2-for-3 with an RBI but the Rams fell to the Miners in the Kick Off the Season Tournament.

Cheile Senini homered for Manogue.

Lorena De La Torre doubled for the Rams.

Damonte Ranch 3, Arbor View 0 — At Doc Romeo Park, pitcher Ally Young tossed a one-hit shutout as the Mustangs defeated the Aggies in the Kick Off the Season Tournament.

Damonte Ranch’s Blylynn Vallejos went 4-for-4 with a home run.

Damonte Ranch 3, Arbor View 0 — At Doc Romeo Park, Young tossed five shutout innings as the Mustangs defeated the Aggies in the Kick Off the Season Tournament .

Mustangs’ catcher Emma Covert went 2-for-4 with a triple and two RBIs.

Silverado 10, Legacy 6 — At Needles, California, the Skyhawks exploded for five runs in the seventh inning to steal a victory from the Longhorns in the Colorado River Invitational.

Lorina Franklin had a pair of doubles for the Skyhawks, and Dalyse Whiteside, Megan Johnson and Alezandria Guariglia each had a double.

Clarissa Lona and and Kiani Ting each had two doubles for Legacy, and teammates Domonique Rodriguez and Vanessa Hart had a double apiece.

Needles 9, Silverado 3 — At Needles, California, Brenna Chavez hit a home run and Kourtney Fletcher tossed a complete game as the Mustangs beat the Skyhawks in the Colorado River Invitational.

Megan Johnson hit two homers for Silverado, and teammate Dalyse Whiteside homered and doubled.

Legacy 6, Chino Valley (Ariz.) 3 — At Needles, California, Braelin broke the tie with a double in the fifth inning to lead the Longhorns over the Cougars in the Colorado River Invitational.

Haley Pederson pitched a complete game, striking out six and allowing no earned runs.

Brockway and Dominique Rodriguez each went 1-for-3 with a double and an RBI.

Desert Oasis 2, Palo Verde Valley (Calif.) 1 — At Needles, California, Holly Severance allowed one run on three hits and struck out two to lift the Diamondbacks past the Yellowjackets in the Colorado River Invitational.

Izriah Hodson went 2-for-2 and scored a run for the Diamondbacks.

Boulder City 12, Mohave Accelerated (Ariz.) 0 — At Needles, California, Bailey Jordan tossed a shutout and struck out six in the Eagles’ rout of the Patriots in the Colorado River Invitational.

Jerra Hinson had two doubles and two RBIs for the Eagles, and Marleena Mills went 2-for-2 with three RBIs.

Summer Coyle and Micayla Gegen each doubled and had an RBI for Boulder City.

Durango 7, White Pine 1 — At Needles, California, Raven Sargent pitched four innings and hit a homer in the Trailblazers’ win over the Bobcats in the Colorado River Invitational.

Kaitlin Fazendin doubled for Durango, and Madison Boyce pitched a scoreless fifth inning.

Durango 7, Palo Verde Valley (Calif.) 1 — At Needles, California, Trinity Valentine hit a two-run homer and pitched four strong innings to earn the victory over the Yellowjackets in the Colorado River Invitational.

Valentine allowed two hits, struck out nine and walked one in four innings.

Her two-run homer highlighted a five-run second inning for Durango. Alexis Geraldo followed Valentine’s blast with a solo homer.

Desert Oasis 12, White Pine 0 — At Needles, California, Meaghan McInerney went 2-for-2 with three RBI to lead the Diamondbacks past the Bobcats in three innings in the Colorado River Invitational.

Elsy Guzman, who also picked up the win in the circle, went 2-for-3 with two RBIs, and teammate Meagan Anders was 2-for-3 with an RBI.

Silverado 10, Legacy 7 — At Needles, California, the Skyhawks defeated the Longhorns in the Colorado River Invitational.

Faith Lutheran 15, Williams (Ariz.) 1 — At Needles, California, the Crusaders routed the Vikings in the Colorado River Invitational.

Needles 2, Chino Valley (Ariz.) 0 — At Needles, California, the Mustangs shut out the Cougars in the Colorado River Invitational.

Pahrump Valley 7, Cathedral City (Calif.) 2 — At Needles, California, the Trojans topped the Lions in the Colorado River Invitational.

Mohave Accelerated (Ariz.) 11, Pahrump Valley 1 — At Needles, California, the Trojans fell to the Patriots in the Colorado River Invitational.

Pahranagat Valley 2, Moapa Valley 1 — At Mesquite, the Kaitlyn Davis doubled in the first run of the game in the sixth inning, and scored what turned out to be the game-winner as the Panthers edged the Pirates in the Sherm Bennett Memorial Tournament.

Allyse Frehner knocked in Davis in the sixth inning for Pahranagat Valley.

Pahranagat Valley 17, Valley 5 — At Mesquite, Hannah Castleton’s four RBIs helped power the Panthers over the Vikings in the Sherm Bennett Memorial Tournament.

Morgan Harris and Karley Whipple each went 2-for-2 for the Panthers.

Valley’s Gabriella Morales went 3-for-3 with two doubles.

Moapa Valley 9, Elko 2 — At Mesquite, the Pirates took down the Indians in the Sherm Bennett Memorial Tournament.

Lincoln County 13, Virgin Valley 4 — At Mesquite, the Lynx topped the Bulldogs in the Sherm Bennett Memorial Tournament.

Elko 14, Valley 2 — At Mesquite, the Vikings fell to the Indians in the Sherm Bennett Memorial Tournament.

Spring Creek 10, Virgin Valley 8 — At Mesquite, the Bulldogs fell to the Spartans in the Sherm Bennett Memorial Tournament.

Aquinas (Calif.) 8, Lincoln County 1 — At Mesquite, the Lynx fell to the Falcons in the Sherm Bennett Memorial Tournament.

Mountain View 23, Sandy Valley 5 — At Laughlin, Miah Fields-Gibbens was 3-for-3 with a triple, four runs and an RBI as the Saints earned a three-inning win over the Sidewinders in the Cougar Classic.

Fields-Gibbens also threw a no-hitter. She struck out six and walked nine.

Nia Van Kempen homered and drove in three runs for the Saints.

Round Mountain 11, Mountain View 4 — At Laughlin, Aryana Cuellar was 2-for-3 with a run and an RBI to help the Knights defeat the Saints in the Cougar Classic.

Jordan Spriggs was 2-for-3 with two doubles and an RBI for Mountain View.
