SOFTBALL: Foley, Crusaders outlast Sierra Vista

Winning pitcher Mosie Foley belted a two-run home run with two outs in the top of the ninth inning Friday to lead Faith Lutheran’s softball team to an 8-7, nine-inning win at Sierra Vista.

Grace Hornsby singled to lead off the ninth inning and scored on a sacrifice fly by Claire Peck. Foley then hit an 0-2 pitch for a two-run homer to center field, plating Ellie Fried to give the Crusaders an 8-5 lead.

Kalei Watkins homered to lead off the bottom of the ninth, and Mia Buranamonti singled and later scored on an error, but the Mountain Lions never got the potential tying run on base in the ninth.

Peck was 3-for-4 with a double and three RBIs, and Hornsby went 2-for-4 with a triple and two RBIs for Faith Lutheran.

Watkins hit for the cycle, going 4-for-4 with four RBIs, and Buranamonti was 3-for-4 with a triple and an RBI for Sierra Vista.

Shadow Ridge 8, Centennial 7 — At Centennial, Caitlyn Covington doubled home two runs in the top of the seventh inning to lift the Mustangs by the Bulldogs.

Covington went 2-for-4 with four RBIs, and Samantha Milanovich was 3-for-4 with a double and two RBIs for Shadow Ridge.

Ava Dolan went 2-for-4 with two doubles and an RBI, and Christina Cerrone was 2-for-3 with two RBIs for Centennial. Makenzie Ball and Skyler Ball each went 2-for-4 for Centennial.

Mojave 15, Western 14 — At Western, Jessica Ortiz singled home winning pitcher Ariel Wilson from second base in the top of the eighth inning, and the Rattlers hung on to beat the Warriors.

Emilee Mitton went 4-for-6 with two doubles, two runs and five RBIs for Mojave. Essence McRae was 4-for-6 with a double and two runs, and Anastasia Evans was 2-for-3 with a double and two runs for Mojave, which also got a double from Sarah Mercado.

Jennessa Dunton went 5-for-5 with a double, four runs and two RBIs for Western, which scored four runs in the bottom of the seventh to force the extra inning. Capricia Pierce was 2-for-5 with a double and three runs for Western.

Legacy 5, Durango 2 — At Durango, Amanda Sink tossed a seven-hitter with 11 strikeouts to lead the Longhorns by the Trailblazers.

Sink walked just two batters and also had a double for Legacy, and teammate Alyssa Sotelo also doubled.

Alexis Geraldo hit a two-run home run for Durango, which finished with six errors.

Arbor View 11, Cimarron-Memorial 2 — At Cimarron, Adriana Thomason was 3-for-3 with an RBI, and winning pitcher Breanne Henricksen was 2-for-3 with two runs and an RBI to help the Aggies down the Spartans.

Brittany Henricksen was 2-for-4 with two doubles, two runs and three RBIs for Arbor View.

Tiarra Del Rosario went 2-for-4 with a double for Cimarron.

Palo Verde 20, Desert Oasis 8 — At Palo Verde, Lauryn Barker was 4-for-4 with three doubles, and Kali Tomlinson went 4-for-4 to help the Panthers rout the Diamondbacks in five innings.

Jessica Nimmo went 3-for-3 and Camden Zahn was 3-for-4 for Palo Verde, which scored 13 runs in the second inning. Makall Whetten was 2-for-4 with a home run, and Allyson Snelling also homered for Palo Verde.

Holly Severance was 2-for-3 with a home run and a double, and Jalyn Chao, Izriah Hodson and Hailey Jaramillo all went 2-for-3 for Desert Oasis.

Bishop Gorman 14, Bonanza 2 — At Bonanza, winning pitcher Sierra Dias went 4-for-5 to help the Gaels to a five-inning win over the Bengals.

Hannah Gondini was 3-for-3 with a double and three RBIs, and Allison Stanfill was 2-for-2 with a home run for Gorman. Hayley Coreas went 2-for-3 with an RBI for Gorman.

Zowie Manuma and Samantha DeMattia each went 2-for-3 for Bonanza.

Spring Valley 11, Pahrump Valley 1 — At Spring Valley, Vivian Quiroz-Montano went 3-for-4 with a double, a triple, an RBI and run scored to lead the Grizzles over the Trojans in six innings.

Michaela Hood tossed a three-hitter with seven strikeouts and went 2-for-3 with a double, two runs and two RBIs, and Madison Hood was 2-for-4 with two RBIs for Spring Valley.

Pahranagat Valley 5, Sunrise Mountain 4 — At Sunrise Mountain, Kaitlyn Davis went 3-for-4 with an RBI to help the Panthers edge the Miners.

Madison Harris was 2-for-3 for Pahranagat Valley.

Amy Locklear was 3-for-4 with an RBI for Sunrise Mountain.

Cheyenne 19, Clark 7 — At Cheyenne, Madelynn Kennedy hit two doubles and drove in a run to lead the Desert Shields’ rout of the Chargers.

Kennedy also struck out four in three innings pitched. Anamonique Muro and Victoria Rosales had a double and an RBI each for Cheyenne, which led 19-0 after four innings.

Lincoln County 22-17, The Meadows 8-1 — At Panaca, Kailey Kelley homered twice in the opener, and Easton Tingey went 3-for-4 with two triples in the nightcap as the Lynx swept two five-inning games from the Mustangs.

Brynlee Wadsworth tripled and doubled, and Sadie Teel doubled twice in the first game for Lincoln County.

In the finale, Josie Burgess tossed a one-hitter and went 2-for-3 with a double, and Drew Cardinal was 2-for-3 with a home run for Lincoln County.

Laughlin 26-27, Mountain View 19-14 — At Mountain View, the Cougard rallied from a 19-15 fourth-inning deficit in the opener and went on to sweep the Saints.

Carissa Wollerton had a double, a triple and an RBI in the first game for Laughlin.

In the second game, Laughlin led 16-5 after two innings and routed Mountain View 27-14. Holly Kessler had a double and an RBI for Mountain View.
