Rancho’s Sam Pochop earns Gatorade softball honor

Rancho junior pitcher Sam Pochop has been named the Gatorade Nevada Softball Player of the Year.

Pochop was named the Most Valuable Pitcher of the Sunrise Region and helped the Rams advance to the Division I state championship game, Rancho’s first appearance in the state title game in 36 years.

She went 19-4 with a 0.51 ERA and 278 strikeouts in 177 2/3 innings, allowing just 18 walks. She also hit .387 with seven doubles and 20 RBIs for Rancho.

Pochop has committed to Tulsa.
