VOLLEYBALL: Jackson, Coronado top Gorman in Nike tourney

Nikki Jackson had 16 kills and three blocks to help Coronado's girls volleyball team to an 18-25, 25-21, 15-12 win over Bishop Gorman in the Nike Tournament of Champions in Phoenix on Friday.

Cali Thompson added 34 assists and two aces, and Carolyn Andrulis had six kills for the Cougars, who dropped a 25-11, 25-17 decision to Jesuit (Ore.) and a 22-25, 25-21, 15-8 match to Eastlake (Calif.) in their other pool-play matches Friday.

Jesuit was a 25-14, 25-22 winner over Gorman, and Eastlake downed the Gaels, 25-18, 25-19.

Adelson School 3, Round Mountain 2 — At Adelson School, Shoshana Wexler had six kills to lead the Lions to a 25-19, 17-25, 25-15, 15-25, 15-5 win over the Knights.

Sydney Spooner added five blocks, and Crystil Wood had three kills and two digs for Adelson School.

Calvary Chapel 2-2, Needles 0-0 — At Needles, Calif., Mariah Martin had 14 assists in the opener and 18 assists in the nightcap as the Lions swept the Mustangs, 25-14, 25-17 and 25-7, 25-16.

Lexi Davis and Malia Lee each had four kills in the first match for Calvary Chapel.

In the finale, Olivia Kaiser had nine kills, and Lee had five kills and two aces for the Lions.

Lake Mead 3, Laughlin 0 — At Laughlin, Jenette Hensley had eight kills and 14 digs to help the Eagles to a 25-14, 25-18, 25-12 win over the Cougars.

Rachael Watkins had 11 assists and eight aces, and Allee Butz added three kills and four aces for Lake Mead.

White Pine 2-2, The Meadows 0-0 — At Ely, the Bobcats swept the Mustangs, 25-14, 25-21 and 25-16, 25-16.

Amanda Hansen had 13 digs, and Emily Ebel added three assists, two aces and three digs for The Meadows in the opener.

In the nightcap, Hansen had 12 digs, and Alexi Corrigan had five kills and two blocks for the Mustangs.

Agassi Prep 2-2, Mountain View 0-0 — At Mountain View, the Stars swept a pair of matches from the Saints, 25-20, 25-18 and 25-23, 25-22.

Jordan Spriggs had four kills and four aces, and Shaunice Simmons added 21 digs for Mountain View.

Beaver Dam 3, Indian Springs 0 — At Indian Springs, the Diamondbacks swept the Thunderbirds, 25-20, 25-14, 25-22.
