GIRLS VOLLEYBALL: Gorman falls in Bronze bracket final at Tournament of Champions

St. John Lutheran (Florida) rallied to edge Bishop Gorman’s girls volleyball team, 22-25, 25-18, 15-13 in the Bronze bracket final in the Nike Tournament of Champions on Saturday in Phoenix.

Gorman lost its position-round match to West Salem (Oregon) to start the day Saturday before rattling off consecutive straight-set wins to advance to the final against the Saints.

Sacred Heart (Kentucky) won the tournament’s top bracket, defeating Corona del Sol (Arizona) in the championship match, 25-17, 25-17.

Bishop Gorman 2, Skyridge (Utah) 0 — At Phoenix, the Gaels downed the Falcons, 25-23, 25-17 in a Bronze bracket semifinal of the Nike Tournament of Champions.

Bishop Gorman 2, Cheyenne East (Colo.) 0 — At Phoenix, the Gaels were 28-26, 25-23 winners over the Thunderbirds in the Nike Tournament of Champions.

West Salem (Ore.) 2, Bishop Gorman 1 — At Phoenix, the Titans edged the Gaels, 25-19, 23-25, 17-15 in the Nike Tournament of Champions.

Faith Lutheran 2, Sabino (Ariz.) 1 — At Phoenix, Tayah Washington had nine kills and nine digs to help the Crusaders defeat the Sabercats 24-26, 25-2, 15-13 in the Nike Tournament of Champions.

Elizabeth Tuls had seven kills and three blocks, and Mary Vancura added 22 assists for Faith Lutheran.

St. Paul (Calif.) 2, Faith Lutheran 0 — At Phoenix, Vancura had 17 assists in the Crusaders’ 25-16, 25-21 loss to the Swordsmen in the Nike Tournament of Champions.

Tuls, Sydney Washington and Tayah Washington each had five kills for Faith Lutheran.

Tri-City Christian (Calif.) 2, Faith Lutheran 1 — At Phoenix, Tayah Washington led the Crusaders with eight kills in their 25-19, 18-25, 15-5 loss to the Eagles in the Nike Tournament of Champions.

Logan Van Reken had 10 digs, and Vancura finished with 17 assists for Faith Lutheran.

Faith Lutheran 2, Thunderbird (Ariz.) 0 — At Phoenix, Vancura had 19 assists and seven digs, and Sydney Washington finished with seven kills to lead the Crusaders to a 25-17, 25-21 win over the Chiefs in the Nike Tournament of Champions.
