GIRLS VOLLEYBALL: Coronado, Chaparral sweep season openers

Madison Karcich had 13 kills to help Coronado’s girls volleyball team to a 26-24, 25-11, 25-14 victory over host Rancho on Thursday.

Safana Boutahiri contributed 10 kills and two service aces for the Cougars, and teammate Dallas Balanay-Flores added 23 assists.

Leiana Nacapuy had 20 assists for the Rams. Rancho’s Karime Raygoza and Mia Suzuki each had 14 digs.

Chaparral 3, Eldorado 0 — At Chaparral, Jessica Joiner had eight kills, six assists and seven aces to lead the Cowboys the Sundevils, 25-11, 25-16, 25-12.

Alyssa Torras added nine kills, five assists and three aces for Chaparral.

Kiana Parkes had six kills and three aces to lead Eldorado, and teammate Samantha Voogd added two assists and one ace.
