Mojave’s Baughman sets record, wins three individual events in Grant Bushman Invitational

Mojave’s Kationa Baughman won three individual events Friday, and shattered the meet record in the 300-meter hurdles to earn Outstanding Female Athlete honors at the Grant Bushman Invitational in Overton.

Baughman won the 300 hurdles in 46.15 seconds, more than two seconds better than the previous record of 48.4. She also placed first in the 100 hurdles (15.91) and 200 (27.05) and ran on the winning 1,600 relay team for the Rattlers.

But that wasn’t enough for Mojave to catch White Pine, which won the team title with 128 points. The Rattlers were second with 124, and Boulder City (112), The Meadows (103) and Virgin Valley (82) rounded out the top five.

Mikinley Prengel was White Pine’s only individual winner, taking the triple jump with a mark of 31 feet, 2 inches. She also finished second in the long jump and third in the 400.

The Meadows’ Delaney Gosse won the 400 (59.82) and high jump (5-0), and teammate Dani Chami won the long jump (16-9) and was second in the pole vault.

Boulder City’s Sierra Selinger won the 1,600 (5:47.04) and was second in the 3,200.

Moapa Valley’s R.J. Hubert was dominant in the boys meet, winning four events to earn Outstanding Male Athlete honors.

Hubert won the 100 (11.72), 110 hurdles (14.94), 300 hurdles (41.28) and high jump (6-6). His time in the 110 hurdles was a meet record.

Boulder City edged the Pirates for the team title, 131-130. Mojave was third with 113, followed by Virgin Valley (86) and The Meadows (53).

Andrew Sands and Samuel Gomez finished one-two in both throws to lead Boulder City. Sands won the shot put with a throw of 48-9 and was second in the discus. Gomez won the discus with a mark of 154-2 and was second in the shot put.

Mojave’s Tyree Steele won the 200 (23.62) and 400 (51.14) and ran on the winning 800 and 1,600 relay teams. Christopher Moux added wins in the long jump (19-2¾) and triple jump (40-1) for the Rattlers.

White Pine’s Sam Stewart posted wins in the 1,600 (4:42.15) and 3,200 (10:49.02).
