SOCCER: Villanueva guides Grizzlies girls past Desert Shields

Savannah Villanueva scored twice to lead Spring Valley’s girls soccer team to a 3-0 victory over visiting Cheyenne on Thursday.

Anay Barajas also scored, and Janis Martinez-Ortiz had two assists for the Grizzlies.

Amberlynn Twigg recorded the shutout.

Clark 7, Mojave 0 — At Mojave, Darian Gambetta had three goals and an assist as the Chargers blanked the Rattlers.

Jackie Gonzalez added two goals and an assist, and teammates Jennifer Martiznez and Dona Acirto also scored. Stephany Chavez-Navarrete and Sonia Vazquez each had an assist.

Goalkeepers Eyker Millan and Maria Zuniga had one save apiece to combine for the shutout.

Faith Lutheran 6, Sierra Vista 1 — At Faith Lutheran, Megan Donnelly had a hat trick, and Kristi Chinn added two goals to propel the Crusaders past the Mountain Lions.

Emily Neighbors provided a goal and an assist for Faith Lutheran, which also got two assists from Cameron Bracey.

Morgan O’Neal scored Sierra Vista’s goal on an assist from Sophia Omidiji.

BOYS

Sierra Vista 1, Faith Lutheran 0 — At Sierra Vista, Joseph Pacheco’s goal with 16 minutes left in the match lifted the Mountain Lions by the Crusaders.

Alberto Vazquez made three saves en route to the shutout.

Spring Valley 4, Cheyenne 2 — At Cheyenne, Tyson Perkins scored three goals to lead the Grizzlies over the Desert Shields.

Jose Lopez also scored for Spring Valley, which pulled away from a 1-1 halftime tie.

Luis Cabrera and John Ramos scored for Cheyenne.

Clark 5, Mojave 2 — At Clark, Oscar Mata had three goals and two assists as the Chargers downed the Rattlers.

Eduardo Martinez had a goal and two assists, Jose Martinez scored a goal, and Ivan Lopez had an assist for Clark.

Antonio Perez scored a goal and had an assist to lead the Rattlers. Saul Godoy also scored for Mojave.

Western 6, Adelson School 0 — At Adelson School, Nathaniel Reyes had three goals, and the Warriors blanked the Lions.

Eduardo Arellano, Martin Vasquez and Bruno Aleman also scored for Western.

Oscar Casas-Arias and Jose Anaya combined on the shutout.
