GIRLS SOCCER: Briza Cortez’s late goal gives Desert Pines win over Eldorado

Briza Cortez scored late in the second half Tuesday to give Desert Pines’ girls soccer team a 5-4 home victory over Eldorado.

The Jaguars trailed 4-3, but tied it on a goal by Brenda Andrade. Carmen Hernandez had a goal and an assist, and Jacqueline Chamale and Cindy Gramajo also scored for the Jaguars.

Brianna Duran had all four goals for the Sundevils.

Las Vegas 3, Virgin Valley 2 — At Las Vegas, Atziri Avila netted two first-half goals, and the Wildcats held off the Bulldogs.

Tabitha Maldonado also scored for Las Vegas, which led 3-0 at halftime.

Alba Trujillo-Hinojosa had two assists, and Brinkley McCoy added an assist for the Wildcats.

Abbie Barnum scored both of Virgin Valley’s goals off assists from Kallie Graves.

Desert Oasis 2, Green Valley 1 — At Green Valley, Miah Strellnauer and Megan Kowalski each scored a second-half goal, and the Diamondbacks held on to defeat the Gators.

Ashley Wood assisted on both goals for Desert Oasis.

Maggie Bender scored a second-half goal for Green Valley.

Centennial 2, Cimarron-Memorial 0 — At Centennial, Marcella Brooks scored twice to lift the Bulldogs over the Spartans.

Makayla Estrellado and Cameron Sickels each had an assist for Centennial, which led 1-0 at the half.

Addison Riddle made six saves to get the shutout.

Moapa Valley 1, Cheyenne 1 — At Cheyenne, Ashlyn Western’s goal helped the Pirates tie the Desert Shields.

Yadira Erives scored on an assist from Laura Garcia for Cheyenne. Both goals came in the second half.

Arbor View 6, Shadow Ridge 0 — At Shadow Ridge, Sierra Vicente had two goals as the Aggies downed the Mustangs.

Madison Boyd, Deja Erickson and Allyssa Larkin also scored for the Aggies, who benefited from an own goal by Shadow Ridge.

Haylee Niemann made five saves to earn the shutout.

Palo Verde 10, Legacy 0 — At Palo Verde, Macee Barlow and Jadyn Nogues each had three goals as the Panthers routed the Longhorns.

Katelyn Fann, Megan Gosz-Siqueiros, Alexis Lloyd and Gianni Terrana had Palo Verde’s other goals.

Noah Johnson added three assists for the Panthers.

Quincy Lee was credited with the shutout after making two saves.
