GIRLS BASKETBALL: Taeha Pankey erupts from 3 as Legacy rallies by California team

Taeha Pankey had 25 points and seven rebounds Thursday to power Legacy’s girls basketball team to a 51-35 win over Burbank (California) in the West Coast Festival in Ontario, California.

Legacy trailed 21-10 at the half before Pankey hit four third-quarter 3-pointers to key a 17-5 run.

C’Aree Stevenson added seven points, and Otilia Price had six points and 10 rebounds for the Longhorns.

Legacy 69, South Gate (Calif.) 35 — At Ontario, California, Maiah Yearwood had 15 points and nine rebounds as the Longhorns topped the Rams in the West Coast Festival.

Pankey added 11 points, and Price scored nine for Legacy, which led 20-8 after one quarter.

Cheyenne 43, Escalon (Calif.) 35 — At Ontario, California, Ejanae Coopwood had 12 points to lead the Desert Shields to the win in the West Coast Festival.

Da’Vione Lomax added 10 points, and Starr Hawkins scored eight for Cheyenne, which plays in the championship game at 6 p.m. Friday.

Franklin (Tenn.) 42, Coronado 27 — At Orlando, Florida, Holly Harris had 17 points to lead the Rebels over the Cougars in the Rock Holiday Classic.

Payton Caci had eight points, four rebounds and two blocked shots to lead Coronado, which trailed 27-10 at the half.

Haley Tyrell added six points and eight rebounds for the Cougars.

Pahranagat Valley 57, Lake Mead 26 — At Lake Mead, Madalyn Taylor had 12 points as the Panthers rolled past the Eagles.

Madi Williams added 11 points, and Gracie Carter scored 10 for Pahranagat Valley, which led 40-13 at the half.

Josey White scored 14 points for Lake Mead.

4A/3A girls state roundup: Legacy, Canyon Springs ousted

Legacy and Canyon Springs couldn’t keep up in the Class 4A girls basketball state semifinals. The Southern Region representatives in 3A also were eliminated.
