GIRLS BASKETBALL: Justice Ethridge scores 28 as eighth-ranked Centennial rolls in season opener

Centennial’s Justice Ethridge scored a game-high 28 points Friday as the Bulldogs’ girls basketball team used a strong second quarter to pull away from Christ the King (N.Y.) for a 78-55 win in their season opener in the Art Turner Memorial in Fairfax, Virginia.

Eboni Walker added 15 points, and Pam Wilmore and Samantha Thomas each scored nine points for Centennial, which outscored the Royals 20-5 in the second quarter to take control.

The Bulldogs, who currently are ranked No. 8 in the nation in USA Today’s Super 25 rankings, fell behind 16-3 in the first quarter but closed the half on a 33-5 run to grab a 36-21 halftime lead.

Centennial will meet top-ranked Paul VI, the tournament host school, at 4 p.m. PDT on Saturday.

Basic 44, Eldorado 20 — At Eldorado, Lauren Powell led Basic with 18 points as the Wolves defeated the Sundevils.

Gail Robinson added nine points for the Wolves.

Kiana Parkes led Eldorado with nine points.

Cimarron-Memorial 62, Del Sol 21 — At Cimarron, Elise Young’s 15 points, seven rebounds and seven assists led the Spartans to victory over the Dragons.

Tasia Moore added 14 points and eight rebounds, and Niara Smith scored 14 for Cimarron, which got nine points from Amoura Whitney. The Spartans led 46-9 at halftime.

Alena Vaoga led Del Sol with six points.

South Sevier (Utah) 54, Green Valley 33 — At Dixie, Utah, Samara Miller scored a team-high 10 points, but the Gators fell to South Sevier in the Dixie Tournament.

Quii Harmon added nine points for Green Valley.

South Sevier went 20-for-20 at the free-throw line.

Bonanza 50, Word of Life 8 — At Bonanza, Maysan Raleigh scored 14 points as the Bengals topped the Eagles.

Kerianne Reilly added 11 points, and Makayla Webb scored nine for Bonanza, which led 28-4 at halftime.

Grace Melena led Word of Life with four points.

Innovations International 17, Indian Springs 16 — At Impact Academy, Diedreanra Savage scored 14 points as the Lady Dragons held on for the victory over the Thunderbirds.

Innovations led 17-9 after three quarters and was held scoreless in the fourth quarter.

Halle Jackson led Indian Springs with six points.

Virgin Valley 48, Rock Point (Ariz.) 29 — At Lake Powell, Utah, Briana Todd had 16 points and 11 rebounds to power the Bulldogs past Rock Point in the Lake Powell Holiday Shootout.

Savannah Price added six points and 10 rebounds for Virgin Valley.

Moapa Valley 59, Cheyenne 39 — At Calvary Chapel, Lainey Cornwall scored a game-high 18 points to lift the Pirates over the Desert Shields in the Lake Mead Holiday Classic.

Kinlee Marshall added 17 points for Moapa Valley.

Ejanae Coopwood led Cheyenne with 15 points.

Boulder City 47, Clark 41 — At Calvary Chapel, Madison Manns had 15 points, and the Eagles used a 17-12 fourth quarter to pull away from the Chargers in the Lake Mead Holiday Classic.

Alea Lehr added 11 points for Boulder City, which led only 30-29 after three quarters.

Julie Reid had 19 points, and Adia Williams scored 10 for Clark.

Clark 42, The Meadows 28 — At Calvary Chapel, Marieka Dent led all scorers with 16 as the Chargers downed the Mustangs in the Lake Mead Holiday Classic.

Marcella Peek had a team-high 12 points for The Meadows.

Boulder City 57, Calvary Christian (Calif.) 11 — At Calvary Chapel, Manns had 15 points and eight assists as the Eagles routed Calvary Christian in the Lake Mead Holiday Classic.

Ellie Howard added 12 points for the Boulder City.

West Wendover 57, Calvary Chapel 27 — At Calvary Chapel, Sydney Reamer scored 21 points to lead the Wolverines past the Lions in the Lake Mead Holiday Classic.

Anahi Esparza added 13 points for West Wendover.

Sara Hernandez had 11 points for Calvary Chapel and teammate Malia Lee scored 10.

West Wendover 57, Laughlin 32 — At Calvary Chapel, Reamer had 19 points, and Esparza scored 13 as the Wolverines topped the Cougars in the Lake Mead Holiday Classic.

Lela Lopez had 12 points for West Wendover.

Amanda Miller led Laughlin with 20 points.

Lincoln County 54, Lake Mead 19 — At Calvary Chapel, Sadie Soderborg led all scorers with 17 points as the Lynx took down the Eagles in the Lake Mead Holiday Classic.

Brynlee Wadsworth scored 15 for the Lynx, who led 28-11 at halftime.

Aaliyah Perkins led Lake Mead with five points.

Beatty 38, El Capitan (Ariz.) 32 — At Littlefield, Arizona, the Hornets defeated the Eagles in the Snake Pit Classic.

El Capitan (Ariz.) 45, Beatty 44 — At Littlefield, Arizona, the Eagles edged the Hornets in the team’s second matchup of the day in the Snake Pit Classic.

Sedona Red Rock (Ariz.) 28, Beatty 27 — At Littlefield, Arizona, Sedona Red Rock beat the Hornets in the Snake Pit Classic.

Sedona Red Rock (Ariz.) 25, JV Virgin Valley 11 — At Littlefield, Arizona, Sedona Red Rock topped the Bulldogs’ junior varsity in the Snake Pit Classic.

Freshmen Virgin Valley 16, GV Christian 8 — At Littlefield, Arizona, the Bulldogs’ freshmen downed the Eagles in the Snake Pit Classic.

El Capitan (Ariz.) 46, GV Christian 10 — At Littlefield, Arizona, El Capitan defeated GV Christian in the Snake Pit Classic.

Beaver Dam 32, GV Christian 16 — At Littlefield, Arizona, the Diamondbacks beat the Eagles in the Snake Pit Classic.

Freshmen Virgin Valley 26, Beaver Dam 23 — At Littlefield, Arizona, the Bulldogs’ freshmen topped the host Diamondbacks in the Snake Pit Classic.

Beaver Dam 25, Tonopah 20 — At Littlefield, Arizona, the Diamondbacks downed the Muckers in the Snake Pit Classic.

Tonopah 31, JV Virgin Valley 18 — At Littlefield, Arizona, the Muckers topped the Bulldogs’ junior varsity in the Snake Pit Classic.

JV Virgin Valley 33, Tonopah 12 — At Littlefield, Arizona, the Bulldogs’ junior varsity rebounded to beat the Muckers in the team’s second match up of the day in the Snake Pit Classic.

Wells 43, Round Mountain 37 — At Wells, the Leopards defeated the Knights in the Wells Rural Electric Tournament.
