GIRLS BASKETBALL: Caira Young leads Gorman to win, Cheyenne falls in tourney final

Caira Young had 14 points to lead Bishop Gorman’s girls basketball team to a 60-48 win over Holy Cross (Canada) in the third-place game of the Energy Classic in Gillette, Wyoming.

Skylar Jackson and Samantha Coleman each added 10 points for the Gaels, who led 25-12 after one quarter and never relinquished control.

Young and Coleman made the all-tournament team.

Alhambra (Calif.) 56, Cheyenne 48 — At Al Martinez, California, Da’Vione Lomax had 14 points, but the Desert Shields fell to the Bulldogs in the championship game of the West Coast Jamboree.

Ejanae Coopwood added 12 points, and Alaexiah Moore scored 10 for Cheyenne, which was just 4-for-21 (19 percent) from the free-throw line.
