Ultra-productive Biaggio Ali Walsh named Male Athlete of the Year

MALE ATHLETE OF THE YEAR

Biaggio Ali Walsh, Bishop Gorman

Ali Walsh wasn’t the most highly recruited player for the Gaels’ football team, but he was the most productive.

The junior running back, who is the grandson of Muhammad Ali, rushed for 2,451 yards and 33 TDs in leading Gorman to a seventh consecutive state championship. Ali Walsh averaged 12.1 yards per carry, and caught three TD passes.

He was the Southwest League Offensive Most Valuable Player, and Gorman ended the season ranked No. 1 in the nation by USA Today for the second consecutive year.

The 5-foot-10-inch, 181-pound back rushed for 264 yards and three touchdowns on 20 carries in Gorman’s 62-21 victory over Liberty in the Division I state title game.

QUOTE

“He’s got elite speed. And if the O-line just gives him about 18 inches of daylight, that’s usually all he needs.”

— Bishop Gorman coach Kenny Sanchez on Ali Walsh after the state title game.
