RECRUITING: Legacy’s Shaw picks Boise State

Legacy senior defensive end Derriyon Shaw made an oral commitment to Boise State on Sunday, announcing his decision on Twitter.

Shaw's commitment is nonbinding, and the first day he can sign a letter of intent is Feb. 3. Boise State's coaches cannot comment until that time.

"I'd love to announce that I have verbally committed to Boise state (sic) University!!" Shaw posted on his Twitter account. "Thank you to every college/university that has recruited me!! It has been a great experience and ride! But I've decided to become a Bronco."

The 6-foot-3-inch, 227-pound Shaw is rated as a three-star prospect by Scout.com and a two-star recruit by Rivals.com. He chose the Broncos over schools such as Arizona State, North Carolina, Washington and Washington State.

Shaw made an official visit to Boise State for the Broncos' 34-14 victory over Wyoming on Oct. 24.

UNLV was one of Shaw's 13 known scholarship offers.

"I wanted to go back to the South, but I feel Pac-12 and Mountain West will fit me better, as far as being able to be a speed rusher," Shaw said during an interview in September.

Shaw, who projects as an outside linebacker/rush end in college, transferred to Legacy from Georgia in December. Shaw had 61 tackles and 11 sacks as a junior at Lanier (Ga.).

Shaw comes from a football family, as his uncle is former NFL linebacker Edgerton Hartwell and his brother, Michael, is a linebacker at Georgia State.
