RECRUITING: Gorman QB Tate Martell picks Ohio State

Bishop Gorman quarterback Tate Martell made an oral commitment to Ohio State on Sunday, announcing his decision via Twitter.

The 5-foot-11-inch standout, a four-star prospect in the class of 2017, according to ESPN, picked the Buckeyes over California, Colorado, Southern California and UCLA. Martell’s commitment is nonbinding, and Ohio State’s coaches cannot comment until he signs a letter of intent.

Martell previously committed to Texas A&M last season, and to Washington in the seventh grade.

Martell threw for 2,608 yards and 32 TDs as a junior. He also ran for 604 yards and nine TDs in leading the Gaels to their seventh consecutive state title.

He was named the Gatorade Nevada Player of the Year as a sophomore, and has led Gorman to the past two mythical national championships.
