RECRUITING: Desert Pines’ Samuelu Poutasi commits to Oregon

Desert Pines senior offensive lineman Samuelu Poutasi made an oral commitment to Oregon on Friday, according to multiple online reports.

Poutasi's commitment is nonbinding, and the first day he can sign a letter of intent is Feb. 3. Oregon's coaches cannot comment until that time.

The 6-foot-4-inch, 305-pound Poutasi suffered a torn anterior cruciate ligament in April and missed the entire regular season before returning in time for the Division I-A Southern Region playoff opener against Cheyenne on Oct. 29.

Poutasi, who projects as an offensive guard, is a three-star recruit according to Rivals.com and Scout.com. He was offered a scholarship by Oregon on Friday and committed a few hours later.

He also had scholarship offers from Hawaii, Northern Arizona, Oregon State, San Diego State, UNLV, UNR, Utah, Washington State and Weber State.

Poutasi is the younger brother of Tennessee Titans rookie offensive lineman Jeremiah Poutasi.
