NOTES: Silverado’s Pritchard commits to Hawaii

Jeremiah Pritchard played his junior season in Hawaii before his family moved to Las Vegas last year.

The senior linebacker/safety for Silverado's football team will return to the islands for his college career.

Pritchard made an oral commitment to Hawaii following an official visit to the school last weekend. His commitment is nonbinding, and the first day he can sign a letter of intent is Feb. 3. Hawaii's coaches cannot comment until that time.

"Officially committed to the University of Hawaii #WarriorNation," Pritchard wrote on his Twitter account Saturday.

Pritchard, a native of American Samoa, transferred to Silverado from Farrington High (Hawaii) in March. A three-star recruit, he entered the season as the state's No. 3 prospect in the class of 2016, according to Rivals.com.

The 6-foot-1-inch, 205-pounder had 67 tackles and two interceptions to help the Skyhawks go 7-4 and reach the Division I Sunrise Region semifinals.

Pritchard was a second-team All-Northeast League selection and earned the Defensive Most Valuable Player award at the West Charleston Lions Club Charity All-Star Football Game in December.

Pritchard chose Hawaii over scholarship offers from Colorado, Fresno State, Montana State and UNLV.

The Warriors went 3-10 (0-8 Mountain West) in 2015 and hired former UNR offensive coordinator/quarterback coach Nick Rolovich as head coach on Nov. 27.

RESCH STEPS DOWN — Cimarron-Memorial girls basketball coach Tim Resch resigned last week, according to Spartans athletic director B.J. Clayton.

Malcolm Griffin was elevated from the junior varsity program to replace Resch, who was in his second season at Cimarron. The Spartans are 6-7 overall (1-3 Northwest League) after Tuesday's loss to top-ranked Centennial.

WOOD WINS GATORADE AWARD — Faith Lutheran senior Chase Wood was named the Gatorade Nevada Boys Cross Country Runner of the Year.

Wood, who was first in 11 races this past season, earned the Division I-A state and Southern Region titles for the second consecutive year. He also won the UNLV Invitational, the Lake Mead Invitational and the Peaks Invitational in Flagstaff, Ariz.

Wood now is eligible for the Gatorade national runner of the year award, which will be announced this month.

HAWKINS HITS MILESTONE — Chaparral senior Marcia Hawkins recorded her 1,000th career point during the Cowboys' victory over Desert Pines on Jan. 19.

Hawkins, a first-team All-Sunrise League honoree as a junior, is averaging 18.3 points for the Cowboys (12-10, 9-0 Sunrise) this season.

RECENT COMMITMENTS — Green Valley seniors Kiyana Lopez to Texas A&M International and Shestan Lynam to Misericordia University (Pa.) for women's soccer. ... Arbor View juniors Breanne, Brittany and Bryce Henricksen to Black Hills State (S.D.) and Silverado junior Alessandra Ponce to George Washington for softball.
