Liberty’s Ethan Dedeaux commits to San Diego State

At 5 feet, 9 inches tall and 175 pounds, Ethan Dedeaux doesn’t exactly stand out in the huddle for Liberty’s football team.

Once the Patriots break, Dedeaux is easy to spot, though not easy to catch or tackle.

Dedeaux is hoping to continue to be elusive on the field in college. He orally committed Sunday to play for the San Diego State Aztecs. The commitment is nonbinding, and San Diego State’s coaches cannot comment until they receive a signed letter of intent.

Dedeaux visited San Diego State on Saturday.

“I’d also like to thank all the schools who put forth the effort to recruit me to their respective schools but after my visit at San Diego State yesterday I have never felt so at home and comfortable with a coaching staff,” Dedeaux tweeted. “I would like to close my recruiting and say that I am committing to San Diego State University.”

A second-team all-state selection at both wide receiver and defensive back last year, Dedeaux caught 37 passes for 809 yards and 11 touchdowns. He also rushed for 237 yards and four touchdowns. Dedeaux also had three interceptions and 42 tackles.

“Ethan is everything you want in a player,” Liberty coach Rich Muraco said. “He’s going to work hard and compete. That’s the thing that always stood out to me. (San Diego State) is going to see that. He’s not going to be happy just getting a scholarship. He’s going to compete and try to get a starting spot and help his team win.”

Dedeaux also received scholarship offers from Idaho, Northern Arizona, Hawaii, New Mexico and UNLV.

SDSU has plenty of Las Vegas connections. Wide receivers coach Hunkie Cooper coached at Canyon Springs, and five players on the team’s spring roster are from Las Vegas.

“I’m so happy for Ethan because I feel like he’s one of the best players, if not the best (in Southern Nevada),” Muraco said. “He has the ability to take over games for us. And we ask him to do a lot for us — offensively, defensively, special teams.”
