Final unofficial Nevada Rubric numbers for 2014-16 cycle
May 24, 2016 - 8:30 am
(Note: on Tuesday morning, the NIAA confirmed the point totals and information listed below as official.)
The Nevada Interscholastic Activities Association uses the Nevada Rubric to determine alignment for the two largest-school classifications in Southern Nevada.
The rubric takes into account schools’ finishes in 22 sports in each of two seasons and uses point values assigned to those finishes. The point totals are computed for a two-year cycle to determine the following two years’ alignment.
The next realignment will occur this week and will be effective for the 2016-17 and 2017-18 seasons.
The NIAA’s Board of Control in April approved the movement of any Division I-A school that reaches 150 or more points in the rubric to Division I (Class 4A) for next year, with the exception of Boulder City, Moapa Valley and Virgin Valley. Those three schools have enrollment numbers significantly less than the other Division I and I-A schools and are exempt from movement between classifications. Division I schools with fewer than 15 points are subject to move to Division I-A (Class 3A).
Beginning next season, Division I will again be called Class 4A. Division I-A will be called Class 3A.
After schools are put into a classification, the Clark County School District athletic office will assign teams to leagues. The district is expected to release the league alignment by Tuesday.
Unofficially, no Division I teams scored fewer than 15 points this season, but five Division I-A schools scored 150 or more points. Four of those schools (Faith Lutheran, Clark, Sierra Vista and Spring Valley) are expected to move to Division I (Class 4A) for next season. The fifth school (Boulder City) will remain in I-A (Class 3A) due to its exemption.
Here are the final official point totals by region, as confirmed by the NIAA.
