Durango tabs Scott Murdock as new football coach

When the Durango football teams starts its 2017 campaign this fall, it will be with a different man at the helm.

Durango’s athletic department announced Wednesday that Scott Murdock will take over for Matt Gerber next season.

Murdock was last a head coach at Clark County High School in Kahoka, Missouri in 2015. He coached three years there, compiling a 17-16 record, including 8-4 in his final season. Last year he was an assistant working with the run game at Sunrise Mountain, where the Miners went 3-7 and rushed for 160 yards per game.

Durango went 6-31 in Gerber’s first five years as head coach, but finished 6-3 last season. The Trailblazers started 6-0 before dropping their final three games and missing the playoffs because of a tiebreaker.

Durango has not made the playoffs since 2012.
