Cheyenne running backs too much for Western

Cheyenne running backs Corwin Bush and Deriontae Green combined for 232 yards and two touchdowns as the visiting Desert Shields beat Western 27-6 Friday night.

Bush made a big splash early, taking the handoff on the first play from scrimmage and going 50 yards for a score. He finished with 147 yards on 14 carries, with 107 yards coming in the first half.

Western responded quickly, as the Warriors needed just three plays to drive down the field, apped by Rodger Harriosn’s 7-yard TD run that cut the lead to 7-6.

The offense slowed down after that, but Western fumbled a snap deep in its own territory late in the first quarter, and Cheyenne (2-3, 1-0 Sunset League) would capitalize with Green scoring on a 2-yard run to give the Desert Shields a 14-6 lead.

Cajuin Jackson scored on a 6-yard rush, and Cheyenne led 21-6 at the half.

Another fumble set up Cheyenne’s final score, a 10-yard TD pass from Matthew LaBonte to William Federson with 4:00 to go in the third quarter.

Harrison finished with 78 yards on 25 carries for the Warriors (0-5, 0-1).
