Bishop Gorman back to No. 1 in national football rankings

After finishing atop the USA Today national football rankings the past two seasons, Bishop Gorman opened the 2016 season at No. 3.

It didn’t take the Gaels long to climb back to the top. Gorman moved back to No. 1 in the latest rankings, which were released on Monday.

The Gaels dominated then-No. 5 Cedar Hill (Texas) 44-14 on Saturday in their season opener. That combined with losses by then-No. 1 St. Thomas Aquinas (Florida) and No. 2 Grayson (Georgia) vaulted Gorman back to No. 1.

Booker T. Washington (Florida), which beat St. Thomas Aquinas 27-23, moved from No. 6 to No. 2.

Gorman hosts Cocoa (Florida) at 7 p.m. on Friday.
