2014 Valley Football Capsule

VALLEY

Head coach: Dave Durham, first season

2013 record: 2-7 (1-4 Northeast League, fifth)

Returning lettermen (starters): Five (two offense, two defense)

Top players: DT/OG Jason Johnson-Kepoo (Sr.); QB Iyen Medlock (So.); WB/CB Tyler Ford (Jr.); WR/DB Tyler Jackson (Sr.)

Outlook: First-year coach Durham inherits very little experience, but the coach does have big goals.

“It’s the 50th anniversary at Valley High this year,” Durham said. “We’re trying to start new traditions with the football team and getting back to the winning ways that Valley once enjoyed.”

Durham said he’s tweaked the offensive scheme to give the team a more multiple-front attack.

And the defense has shifted from a 5-2 to a 4-3.

Johnson-Kepoo, a first team All-Northeast League pick at defensive tackle last season, will key both lines.

“It’s going to take a while,” Durham said. “They’re picking it up, but it’s still going to take some time and work.”
