2014 Legacy Football Capsule

LEGACY

Head coach: John Isola, first season

2013 record: 6-4 (3-2 Southwest League, third)

Returning lettermen (starters): Six (two offense, two defense)

Base offensive set: Pro set

Base defensive set: 3-5

Top offensive players: RB DeMichael Walker (Sr.); RB/FB Tiyen Geeslin (Jr.); WR Kourde Roberts (Sr.); QB Tanoa Alapati (Jr.)

Top defensive players: CB D’Angelo Lindsey; S Kevion Johnson; LB A.J. Sotello (Jr.)

Top special teams players: Maurice Nelson (Sr.)

Top newcomers: Kourde Roberts, Kirowe Manny

Key losses: Casey Hughes; Josh Phillips; Matt Link; Zach Lurgis

Outlook: Isola replaces Dave Snyder, who started the program and went 40-40 in eight seasons, which included a Northwest League title in 2009..

The Longhorns lost some strong athletes, but the cupboard isn’t bare.

While speedster Casey Hughes (1,034 rushing yards, 14 TDs) is now playing at Utah, Isola still has one home-run threat in his backfield with Walker, who rushed for 1,001 yards and 11 TDs as a junior.

The team also must replace quarterback Devin Williams (553 passing yards, 7 TDs), who was a second team All-Southwest League pick last season.

Defensively, the team must find replacements for several key cogs including leading tackler Phillips (75 tackles).

But Isola thinks his young team is athletic enough to compete every week, especially if the Longhorns get strong contributions from the senior class.
