ELDORADO

League: Division I Southeast

Head coach: Robert Cutts, first season

2014 record: 4-5 (0-4 Southeast, fifth)

Returning lettermen: 10

Returning starters: Three offense, three defense

Base offensive set: Spread

Base defensive set: 3-3-5

Top offensive players: QB Deven Dabbs (Sr.); WR Shane Barnes (Sr.); WR Carl Crayon (Sr.)

Top defensive players: CB Carl Crayon (Sr.); CB Mike Davis (Sr.); MLB Tristen Sanchez (Sr.)

Key losses: QB/WR Josh Brown

Outlook: Cutts takes over a program looking for its first playoff appearance since 2004.

There is reason for optimism, especially on offense. Dabbs returns at quarterback after completing 63 percent of his passes for 1,434 yards and 19 TDs last season in his first year as a varsity regular.

Barnes and Crayon should give him solid targets out of the team's spread offense. Barnes was a first-team All-Southeast League selection at receiver after catching 24 passes for 431 yards and nine TDs last year.

Crayon added 15 catches for 248 yards and three scores.

The Sundevils will miss the versatile Brown, who lined up at quarterback, receiver and running back and offered big-play capability every time he touched the ball.

The team also must shore up its defense, after allowing an average of 31.9 points last season.

But if the team can plug the holes on defense and find a consistent running game to balance its passing attack, the Sundevils could end their playoff drought.

"Offensively, we should put on a show with a strong-arm quarterback and a talented wide receiver corps," Cutts said. "Defensively, the pressure is on."
