Outlook: Graduation hit the Spartans hard, especially on the defensive side of the ball.

Cimarron struggled some on defense last season, allowing 30 or more points in all six of its losses and an average of 26.2 for the season.

And that was with Northwest League Defensive MVP John Nelson, a first-team all-state pick at linebacker who led the team with 109 tackles.

Garcia, who was second on the team with 90 tackles, will have to pick up the slack and lead the young defense. He earned second-team All-Northwest honors last season.

On offense, the Spartans must replace quarterback Morefield and its top receiving threats. Morefield, who is playing at Navy, passed for 1,421 yards and 13 TDs.

Riley led the team in rushing with 425 yards, and Gentry and Wachowski-Cook are back to anchor the line after making the All-Northwest second team last season.

Soukup caught just 10 balls last season, but is the top returning receiver.

"(We are) a young, inexperienced team whose goal is to improve every day while learning what it takes to compete versus the speed at the varsity level," Parcells said.
