Nathaniel Barton had 14 kills and three blocks on Wednesday, and Del Sol’s boys volleyball team wrapped up the No. 4 seed for the Class 3A state tournament with a 25-22, 25-20, 25-19 home win over Sunrise Mountain.
Alan Ramos-Flores added four kills and 21 assists for the Dragons, and teammate Angel Vargas had 10 assists, six aces and three digs.
Clinton Cavosora added 15 digs for the Dragons, who will face fifth-seeded Western at 5 p.m. Thursday at Mojave.
Sunrise Mountain, which could have secured the No. 4 seed with a win, fell to the No. 6 seed and will face third-seeded Tech at 5 p.m. Thursday at Cheyenne.
Mojave 3, Chaparral 0 — At Mojave, Antonyo Wright had seven kills to help the Rattlers complete a perfect Class 3A Southern League regular season with a 25-11, 25-9, 25-16 sweep of the Cowboys.
Daronde McKinney added six kills, and teammate Juan Valdez had 20 assists for Mojave, which opens state tournament play as the top seed and will host Desert Pines at 7 p.m. Thursday.
Ben Kirschbaum had five kills, and Sam Realica dished out 12 assists for Chaparral, which visits Cheyenne on Thursday to open the tournament.
Tech 3, Desert Pines 1 — At Desert Pines, Collin Faught had 18 assists, two aces and two blocks to lead the Roadrunners to a 25-19, 17-25, 25-17, 25-19 victory over the Jaguars.
Haakon Hunsaker added five kills for Tech.
Leonel Rincon had seven kills and 12 digs, and Heriberto Mireles added 12 assists and eight digs to lead Desert Pines.
Joshua Moran had 25 digs, and Ricardo Acuna finished with 12 blocks for the Jaguars.
Cheyenne 3, Western 0 — At Western, Tyler Buchanan had 13 kills and six aces to lead the Desert Shields to a 25-18, 31-29, 25-19 win over the Warriors.
Anthony Walker added eight kills, and Brian Orellana had 26 assists for Cheyenne, which earned the No. 2 seed for the state tournament and will host Chaparral at 7 p.m. Thursday.
Anthony Dodson led Western with 14 kills. Leonel Acosta-Trevizo added 20 assists, and Brandon Grajeda had six kills and two blocks for the Warriors.
