VOLLEYBALL: Gorman tops Legacy, earns No. 2 seed for postseason

Jacob Taylor had 13 kills, and Will Hafen added seven kills Thursday to help Bishop Gorman’s boys volleyball team secure the Southwest League’s No. 2 seed in the playoffs with a 25-23, 25-18, 25-17 win at Legacy.

Trevor Papcock had 30 assists, and Gavin Thompson notched 10 digs for Gorman, which will meet Northwest No. 3 seed Centennial in the first round of the Division I Sunset Region tournament on Tuesday.

Omari Wheeler paced Legacy with 17 kills. Nephi Purcell dished out 29 assists, and Christian Dulalia had 10 digs for the Longhorns.

Clark 3, Spring Valley 1 — At Clark, Antonio Martinez had 32 assists, four aces and 12 digs to power the Chargers by the Grizzlies, 25-15, 23-25, 25-22, 25-23.

Alan Cruz added nine kills, three aces and 10 digs, and Dane Taylor-Phillips had 19 digs for Clark.

Troy Lance led Spring Valley with 12 kills, 12 assists and five blocks. Stevan Paukovic had nine kills, 11 assists, two aces and four blocks, and Ace LaBreche notched two kills, three aces and seven blocks for the Grizzlies.

Coronado 3, Durango 0 — At Durango, Ryan Garlick had 12 kills, and Justice Balanay-Flores added 35 assists to help the Cougars sweep the Trailblazers, 25-15, 25-16, 25-19.

J.J. Meath had nine kills, and Trey Hunter finished with seven kills and three blocks for Coronado.

Michael Diggins led Durango with six kills and seven digs. Andre Shabazz had 12 assists and four digs, Jaylen Clark had five kills and Gabe Pestano tallied four kills and two digs for the Traiblazers.

Palo Verde 3, Shadow Ridge 0 — At Shadow Ridge, Chandler Julifs had 12 kills and eight digs to help the Panthers to a 25-13, 27-25, 25-12 sweep of the Mustangs.

Haden Van Orden had 32 assists, and Taylor Miller added seven kills and three blocks for Palo Verde, which also got 14 digs from Jacob Scheer.

Cameron Renner had 23 digs, and Tanner Franklin added five kills and five digs for Shadow Ridge.

Mojave 3, Western 0 — At Western, Clayton Fontano had 16 kills and six digs, and Jonatan Estrada added seven kills and seven digs as the Rattlers swept the Warriors, 25-10, 25-15, 25-16.

Antonyo Wright and Patrick Harper each had eight kills, and Alfonso Ramirez dished out 27 assists for Mojave.

Anthony Dodson led Western with two kills and nine blocks. Christian Macias tallied two kills, five assists, five digs and two blocks, and Gerardo Cardenas had two kills, four digs and a block for the Warriors.

Desert Pines 3, Sunrise Mountain 0 — At Desert Pines, Estanislao Lansangan had 10 kills, 17 assists, nine digs and five aces to help the Jaguars to a 25-18, 25-16, 25-20 sweep of the Miners.

Ortega Wiltz added nine kills and 12 digs, and Carlos Flores had seven kills, 12 digs and four blocks for Desert Pines.

Bobby Brass had seven kills, and Rodney King contributed seven digs for Sunrise Mountain.

Valley 3, Silverado 0 — At Silverado, Marty Heavey had 20 kills to lead the Vikings to a 25-23, 25-21, 25-21 sweep of the Skyhawks.

Jared Marchello added 13 kills, and Justin Sandoval dished out 36 assists for Valley.

Cody Steckel paced Silverado with 21 assists and 13 digs. Kris Coe had seven kills, and Taz Goon added five kills and 12 digs for the Skyhawks.

Sierra Vista 3, Cheyenne 0 — At Sierra Vista, Brendan Cowden dished out 19 assists to lead the Mountain Lions to a 25-16, 25-19, 25-16 sweep of the Desert Shields.

Nik Fava added 11 kills and three aces for Sierra Vista.

Tyler Buchanan had 12 kills to pace Cheyenne.

Las Vegas 3, Liberty 0 — At Las Vegas, Luis Wong dished out 36 assists to lift the Wildcats to a 25-19, 25-15, 30-28 win over the Patriots.

Kevin Smith added five digs, and Cannon McCoy notched 10 digs for Las Vegas.
