TRACK: Centennial dominates boys, girls on first day of Skyhawk Invitational

Savon Scarver won two individual events Friday, and the Centennial boys track team took control after the first day of the Skyhawk Invitational at Silverado.

Scarver won the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 14.97 seconds, and also took home the 200 dash (21.56).

James Johnson also won for Centennial, topping the long jump field with a distance of 23 feet, 9¾ inches. Tre Harley’s win in the 400 dash (47.92) and the Bulldogs’ 800 relay victory (1:26.32) also contributed to Centennial’s team score of 101 points.

Liberty is second with 40 points, and Basic is third with 36½.

Basic’s Frank Harris won the high jump (6-4), and the Wolves won the 3,200 relay.

Liberty’s Corey Moore won the discus (175-8), and Musio Jimenez-Vazquez won 1,600 run (4:20.76) for Sunrise Mountain.

GIRLS

At Silverado, Karina Haymore and Alexis Gourrier finished 1-2 in the 800 meters, and Quincy Bonds won the 300 hurdles to help Centennial take a commanding lead after the first day of the Skyhawk Invitational.

The Bulldogs scored 104 points, with Rancho second at 42½. Liberty is third with 42 points, followed by Silverado (37) and Canyon Springs (27).

Haymore crossed the line in 2:10.09, with Gourrier nearly five seconds behind.

Bonds won the hurdles in 44.25, edging teammate Talie Bonds by one-hundreth of a second.

Centennial (3:53.55) edged Rancho in the 1,600 relay by less than a second. Rancho won the 400 relay in 47.51 with Centennial close behind in second.

Athiya Iese won the shot put (40-8) and Gabby Carson was first in the pole vault (11-6) for Liberty.

Silverado’s Mikayla Kelley won the triple jump with a mark of 36-9, and Gwendolyn Mitchell of Canyon Springs won the 100 in 12.38.
