DIVISION I-A SWIMMING: Trio helps Boulder City girls breeze to region title

Mandy Gebhart, Montana Lloyd and Rose Pouch each placed first in two individual events, and Boulder City won seven of the eight individual swimming events Friday to run away with the Division I-A Southern Region girls swimming title at UNLV.

The Eagles, who also placed first in all three relays, racked up 523 points. Clark was second with 252 points. Sierra Vista (247), Faith Lutheran (226) and Spring Valley (223) rounded out the top five.

Gebhart won the 50-yard freestyle in 24.87 seconds and took the 500 freestyle in 5:01.86.

Lloyd won the 200 individual medley in 2:04.84 and the 100 backstroke in 56.03.

Pouch took the 200 freestyle in 1:54.22 and the 100 freestyle in 53.51.

The Eagles also got a first-place finish from Abby Sauerbrei in the 100 butterfly (58.9).

Clark’s Samantha Difulvio won the 100 breaststroke in 1:09.81.

Tech’s Elle Renner took first in diving with 324.15 points.

In the boys meet, Nick Lara won two individual events to help Boulder City claim the team title with 342 points.

Sierra Vista was second with 306 points. Faith Lutheran was third with 281, followed by Spring Valley with 207 and Clark with 199.

Lara won the 200 freestyle in 1:41.96 and the 100 butterfly in 51.13.

The Eagles’ Paco Cuevas won the 200 individual medley in 2:03.25, and teammate A.J. Pouch took the 100 breaststoke in 59.03.

Sierra Vista’s Amil Kurtagic was first in the 500 freestyle in 4:42.68, and the Mountain Lions’ Haris Kurtagic claimed the 100 freestyle in 49.46.

Faith Lutheran’s Eric Anderson won the 50 freestyle in 22.57.

Clark’s Andy Wang was first in the 100 backstroke in 52.38.

Cheyenne’s Aaron Reed won the diving with 254.85 points.

The top four finishers in each event advance to the state meet next week at UNLV.
