BOYS SOCCER: Defending champ Sundevils start strong against Spartans

Israel Hernandez scored two goals Friday to help defending Division I state champion Eldorado to a 3-0 home win over Cimarron-Memorial’s boys soccer team.

Gabriel Pedraza scored a goal for the Sundevils, who got two assists from Eddie Mercardo.

Omar Ramirez and Roberto Nunez combined to save seven shots en route to the shutout for the Sundevils.

Las Vegas 4, Shadow Ridge 0 — At Shadow Ridge, Daniel Nunez converted three penalty kicks to lift the Wildcats by the Mustangs.

Enrique Adame made four saves to earn the shutout for Las Vegas, which benefited from an own goal.

Legacy 1, Tech 0 — At Liberty, Daniel Mejia’s second-half goal propelled the Longhorns past the defending Division I-A state champion Roadrunners in the Southern Nevada Kick-off Classic.

Juan Orpineda recorded the shutout for Legacy.

Green Valley 2, Desert Oasis 0 — At Liberty, Malik Cooper converted a penalty kick in the first half, and Antonio Trama scored in the second half to lead the Gators by the Diamondbacks in the Southern Nevada Kick-off Classic.

Bryant Peralta made four saves en route to the shutout for Green Valley.

Foothill 6, Arbor View 0 — At Liberty, Robert Cowan scored three goals to lead the Falcons by the Aggies in the Southern Nevada Kick-off Classic.

Jackson Dietrich, Mike Dolmont and Jesse Lima each had a goal, and Mason Reid added three assists for Foothill.

Derek Lawson had two saves to earn the shutout for the Falcons.

Palo Verde 3, Chaparral 0 — At Liberty, Nolan Sherwood had two goals to lift the Panthers by the Cowboys in the Southern Nevada Kick-off Classic.

Griffin Mallas also scored for Palo Verde.

Nishesh Yadav and Adam Zimmerman combined on the shutout for Palo Verde. Yadav stopped a penalty kick in the first half.

Western 2, Durango 1 — At Liberty, Martin Vasquez and Ricardo Gonzalez each scored second-half goals to lead the Warriors by the Trailblazers in the Southern Nevada Kick-off Classic.

Nathaniel Reyes assisted Gonzalez’s game-winning goal in the 65th minute for Western.

Durango’s Jovany Vasquez scored in the first half.

Sierra Vista 2, Liberty 2 — At Liberty, Joey Holliman scored the tying with nine minutes left and both teams held on for the 2-2 tie in the Southern Nevada Kick-Off Classic.

Ben Stang scored the other goal for Liberty.

Adam Felipe-Dumo and Calvin Aguirre scored in the first half for Sierra Vista.

Bishop Gorman 4, Reed 1 — At Reno, Jake Bickford and Chaz Laforett each scored twice as the Gaels pulled away from the Raiders in the Howell Memorial Tournament.

Gorman scored three times in the second half to break a 1-1 halftime tie.

Bishop Gorman 1, North Valleys 1 — At Reno, DeLeon’s goal with 15 minutes remaining in the match allowed the Gaels to tie the Panthers in the Howell Memorial Tournament.

North Valleys built a 1-0 halftime lead by converting a penalty kick.

Faith Lutheran 0, Truckee 0 — At Reno, Phil Starcher made two saves in regulation as the Crusaders earned a tie with the Wolverines in the Howell Memorial Tournament.

Faith Lutheran was a 3-2 winner on penalty kicks, with the help of Harut Khachoyan, Logan Buckley and Zach Miller.

North Valleys 1, Faith Lutheran 0 — At Reno, the Panthers scored in the first 10 minutes and hung on to beat the Crusaders in the Howell Memorial Tournament.

Chaz Ramsay had four saves, and Starcher added three for Faith Lutheran.
