Three Southern Nevada players invited to McDonald’s All American Game

Bishop Gorman’s boys basketball program had one McDonald’s All American in the school’s history.

That all changed on Wednesday when Chase Jeter and Stephen Zimmerman were named to the 12-player West squad. Findlay Prep’s Allonzo Trier also made the West team.

“It’s a great accomplishment, not just for Bishop Gorman, but for Las Vegas to have two Las Vegas kids in the same year to have been chosen for the McDonald’s All American game,” Gorman coach Grant Rice said.

The 6-foot-11-inch Jeter, who has signed with Duke, and the 7-0 Zimmerman provide an imposing inside presence for Gorman, which is the top-ranked boys team in Southern Nevada. Zimmerman is among the top uncommitted players in the senior class.

Rice said both players average about 15 points and 10 rebounds.

“Because they play the same position, they’ve both made a lot of sacrifices,” Rice said. “They’ve sacrificed a lot of individual stats and personal glory because they’ve really shared the spotlight. The fact that both made the McDonald’s game shows it’s not always about stats and personal highlights.”

The only other Gorman boys player to play in the McDonald’s game was Shabazz Muhammad in 2012.

Trier is the top scorer for the Pilots, who are currently ranked No. 5 in the nation by USA Today. Trier averages 27.6 points, 5.7 rebounds and 1.6 steals.

Trier is the 10th player from Findlay Prep to be named to the McDonald’s game. Kelly Oubre and Rashad Vaughn played in last year’s game.
