Gorman’s Jeter claims Gatorade honor

With all the success Bishop Gorman’s boys basketball team has experienced over the past decade, it comes as no surprise that the school has had its fair share of standout athletes.

Chase Jeter is the latest player to join Gaels royalty.

On Friday, Jeter was selected the Gatorade Nevada Boys Basketball Player of the Year. He is the school’s fourth winner in the last six years, and eighth in program history.

The 6-foot-11, 225-pound senior, who averaged 16.8 points and 10.8 rebounds per game this season, led the Gaels to their fourth straight state championship on Feb. 27. Jeter had 21 points, 13 rebounds and four blocked shots in Bishop Gorman’s 74-54 win over Palo Verde in the state final.

Jeter, a Duke-signee, also has been selected to play in the McDonald’s All American Game selection. He was a member of the 2014 USA U18 National Team that compiled a 5-0 record and won gold at the FIBA U18 Championship last summer.

The Gatorade also recognizes high standards of academic achievement. Jeter maintains a 3.86 GPA.
