Findlay Prep’s Markus Howard scores 12 points in USA win over Turkey

Findlay Prep’s Markus Howard had 12 points, two rebounds and two assists Friday as the USA Men’s U17 basketball team beat Turkey 84-66 in pool play of the FIBA World Championships in Zaragoza, Spain.
Howard shot 4-for-8 from the field and made two 3-pointers in 22 minutes for the USA, which led 47-31 at halftime.
Centennial’s Troy Brown struggled with his shot in his second national game, going 1-for-7 from the field and finishing with five points. He had five rebounds, including three on the offensive glass in 21 minutes of action.
Collin Sexton, a shooting guard from Mableton, Georgia, led the USA with 20 points.
The USA shot 43.1 percent from the field — compared to Turkey’s 44.9 percent — but forced 23 turnovers and won the rebound battle, 49-30.
The USA will meet Egypt at 5:15 a.m. Sunday in pool play.
