ROUNDUP: Wild pitch derails Rancho in Lions baseball tourney

Rancho Buena Vista (Calif.) scored on a wild pitch in the bottom of the seventh inning Monday to earn a 4-3 win over Rancho in the Lions Tournament in Vista, Calif.

The Longhorns started the inning with a walk and hit batter. After a sacrfice bunt, an intentional walk loaded the bases.

Rancho had tied the game in the top of the inning when Bryce Harrell scored on fielder’s choice grounder by David Modler.

Modler was 2-for-4 with an RBI, and Harrell was 1-for-3 with a double for Rancho.

Rancho Buena Vista’s Mike Benson, who has committed to UCLA, was 2-for-4 and drove in a run in the fifth inning to give the Longhorns a 3-2 lead. Benson also picked up the win in relief.

Steele Canyon (Calif.) 4, Silverado 3 — At Spring Valley, Calif., Steele Canyon scored three runs in the bottom of the third inning and held on to nip the Skyhawks in the Lions Tournament.

Dillon Johnson was 2-for-4 with a double for Silverado.

Granite Hills (Calif.) 4, Green Valley 2 — At El Cajon, Calif., Justin Mitchell was 2-for-3 with a homer and two RBIs, and also threw 5 1/3 innings to get the win as the Eagles defeated the Gators in the Lions Tournament.

Green Valley’s Keaton Smith doubled twice and drove in a run, and teammate Anthony Hatch was 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI.

La Costa Canyon (Calif.) 17, Coronado 1 — At Carlsbad, Calif., La Costa Canyon pounded out 17 hits en route to a five-inning win over the Cougars in the Lions Tournament.

Jacen Yergensen was 1-for-1 with an RBI triple for Coronado.

Bonita Vista (Calif.) 3, Foothill 2 — At Chula Vista, Calif., Daniel Schneemann scored the winning run on pair of errors in the bottom of the seventh inning to lift Bonita Vista by the Falcons in the Lions Tournament.

Collin Dobrolecki was 1-for-4 with an RBI for Foothill.

SOFTBALL

Chatsworth (Calif.) 11, Faith Lutheran 0 — At Los Angeles, the Crusaders managed only three singles and fell to Chatsworth in five innings in the Lincoln Spring Fling.

Lincoln (Calif.) 13, Faith Lutheran 5 – At Los Angeles, the host school used a seven-run second inning to top the Crusaders in five innings in the Lincoln Spring Fling.

Alex Wright was 2-for-3 with two doubles and two RBIs, and Dani Tharaldson was 2-for-3 with a double and two RBIs for Faith Lutheran.
