Mayhem eliminated from Connie Mack West Regional

The Las Vegas Mayhem continued to struggle offensively Thursday in a 9-1 loss to the Orange County Giants in the Connie Mack West Regional at Golden West College in Huntington Beach, Calif.

The loss eliminated Las Vegas from the tournament. In three games, the Mayhem scored just three runs, two coming in a 2-1 win over the Southern California Renegades in the team’s opener on Tuesday.

“Just the wrong time not to hit,” Mayhem coach Gino DiMaria said. “After the first game, our adrenaline shot right back down and we couldn’t hit.”

Las Vegas trailed 4-0 in the fourth inning when third baseman Alec Taft hit a solo homer. DiMaria said his team followed with three straight singles to load the bases, but couldn’t capitalize.

“We went popup, popup, and that just killed the whole inning,” DiMaria said.

The Mayhem finished the season 33-10.

“Our first year in Connie Mack and we had a great run,” DiMaria said. “Now we know how we’re going to go ahead and field a team for next year and what we have to do to compete at this level, because it’s a night-and-day difference.”
