GRIZZLY-BENGAL TOURNAMENT: Dunn’s homer gives Bengals win over Longhorns

Chris Dunn’s two-run home run with no outs in the bottom of the eighth inning Monday allowed host Bonanza’s baseball team to top Legacy, 10-8 in the Grizzly-Bengal Spring Break Tournament.

After the Bengals rallied with three runs in the bottom of the seventh, Levi Klump walked to lead off the bottom of the eighth. Two pitches later, Dunn ended the game with the homer.

The Longhorns carried a 7-4 lead into the bottom of the seventh, but Jay DeSoto’s one-out sacrifice fly pulled the Bengals within two, and pinch-hitter Kolby Hannah followed with a two-run double to tie the game.

Hunter Junge was 3-for-4 with a double, and Dunn went 2-for-5 for Bonanza.

Nick DeLuca was 2-for-3 with a double, and Alex Tadd and Hayden LeCates each had two hits, including a triple, for Legacy.

Bonanza 14, Foothill 4 — At Bonanza, Jonathan Massey went 4-for-4 with a double and two RBIs to help the Bengals top the Falcons in five innings.

Eric Schultz went 2-for-2 with a home run, a double, two runs and an RBI, and Junge had a two-run homer for Bonanza.

Dunn, Andre Isaraq, Casey Ladeira and Spencer Faught each had two hits for Bonanza.

Liberty 10, Spring Valley 2 — At Spring Valley, Nick Woolery went 3-for-4 with a double and five RBIs to lead the Patriots past the Grizzlies.

Nick Rush was 3-for-4 with a double and three runs, and Jonny Gilleres went 2-for-3 with a solo homer and three runs for the Patriots.

Jacob Klein went 2-for-4 with a double and two RBIs, and Preston Pavlica was 2-for-4 with two doubles and two runs for Liberty, which got two hits from Justin Lutes.

Michael Wong, Ed O’Bannon and Sulila Bedebone combined on a four hitter for the Patriots.

Jake Sellinger was 2-for-3 with a solo home run for Spring Valley.

Liberty 6, Palo Verde 4 — At Spring Valley, Pavlica was 2-for-4 with a double, an RBI and two runs to help the Patriots hold off the Panthers.

Woolery added a double and two RBIs for Liberty.

Palo Verde had the bases loaded with two outs in the bottom of the seventh, but Bailey Daguio got Yodai Nakamura to ground out to second to end the game.

J.D. Brooks went 2-for-3 with a double and two RBIs to lead Palo Verde, and teammate Will Hamilton was 2-for-3 with a double.

Palo Verde 8, Spring Valley 1 — At Spring Valley, Brooks tossed a three-hitter with three strikeouts and went 2-for-3 to help the Panthers down the Grizzlies.

Cobi Fiechtner was 2-for-4 with a triple, two runs and two RBIs, and Ryan Merino went 2-for-3 for Palo Verde.
