BASEBALL: Shea Hamilton’s single gives Spring Valley victory

Shea Hamilton singled home Humberto Maldonado with one out in the top of the seventh on Saturday to give Spring Valley’s baseball team a 2-1 road win over Faith Lutheran in the Bengal Varsity Tournament.

Maldonado walked, went to second on a balk and took third on a wild pitch before Hamilton singled to right to bring home the go-ahead run.

Donovan Souder went the distance, allowing seven hits and striking out five, to get the win.

In the second game, the Grizzlies scored nine runs in the top of the seventh to break a 10-10 tie and held on for a 19-11 win.

Jack Sellinger went 3-for-5 with a home run and five RBIs to pace Spring Valley. Nick Rupp was 3-for-5 with two RBIs, Braxton Bruschke went 2-for-3 with three RBIs, and Kade Higgins, Jackson Otis and Maldonado each added two hits and two RBIs for the Grizzlies in the nightcap.

Faith Lutheran’s Blake Giuliani went 2-for-3 with three RBIs. Parker Sylvester and Paulshawn Pasqualotto each added two hits and two RBIs for the Crusaders.

Silverado 7-15, Highland (Calif.) 5-10 — At Silverado, Peyton Ballard’s two-run double highlighted a three-run sixth inning as the Skyhawks rallied to top the Bulldogs in the opener in the Bengal Varsity Tournament.

Ballard was 3-for-4 with a run and four RBIs. Dax Fellows was 2-for-3 with a double and three runs, and Patrick Ballinger was 2-for-3 with a run for Silverado, which trailed 5-4 going to the bottom of the sixth.

In the second game, Silverado used an 11-run fourth inning to pull away and earn the sweep.

Fellows was 3-for-4 with a double, three runs and an RBI, and Thomas Keller went 3-for-5 with two doubles, two RBIs and a run for the Skyhawks. Kevin Pindel added a double, three runs and three RBIs for Silverado.

Highland’s Donavan Snipes went 4-for-4 with a double, two runs and an RBI. The Bulldogs scored eight runs in the third, and led 8-4 before Silverado’s fourth-inning outburst.

Bonanza 9-10, Boulder City 8-0 — At Bonanza, Julio Seperich fired a four-hit shutout in the nightcap to help the Bengals complete a sweep of the Eagles in the Bengals Varsity Tournament.

Seperich struck out five with one walk in the five-inning game. He also went 3-for-4 with a triple, a run and two RBIs.

Luis Lares was 3-for-3 with a double, two runs and two RBIs, and Torren Brozovich went 2-for-3 with a double, a run and an RBI for the Bengals. Jay DeSoto added a homer and two RBIs.

In the opener, Bonanza rallied for five runs in the bottom of the fifth to take an 8-6 lead and held on for the win.

DeSoto hit a two-run homer to highlight the fifth for the Bengals. Lares was 2-for-3 with three runs, and Brandon Rivera went 2-for-3 with a double in the first game for Bonanza. DeSoto scored three runs.

Rhett Armstrong was 2-for-2 with a triple and three runs in the opener for Boulder City.

Foothill 9-5, Durango 4-18 — At Foothill, the visiting Trailblazers pounded out 19 hits in the second game to salvage a split with the Falcons in the Bengal Varsity Tournament.

Ryan Barry went 2-for-3 with a double, a triple and three RBIs for Durango. Duke Pahukoa was 3-for-4 with a double and two RBIs, and Bruin Persweig as 2-for-3 with two RBIs for the Trailblazers.

Chayse Parenteau was 3-for-3 with a double for Foothill.

In the opener, Parenteau went 3-for-4, and Jake Perales was 2-for-4 with two doubles and two RBIs to lead the Falcons to the win.

Cameron Gallegos went 2-for-3 with an RBI for Durango.

Basic 6, Perry (Ariz.) 5 — At Phoeniz, Kyle Turner’s two-out single in the top of the sixth inning plated Trace Evans with the eventual winning run as the Wolves edged the Pumas in the championship game of the Boras Classic.

Perry had a chance to tie or win the game in the bottom of the seventh, loading the bases with two outs, but Basic’s Paul Myro struck out Perry’s Wyatt Crenshaw to end the game.

Basic trailed 4-0 after one inning before battling back with four runs in the third.

Evans singled with two outs to start the sixth-inning rally. Paul Myro followed with a single, and Turner singled home Evans.

Turner had two hits and two RBIs, and John Howard Bobo added two hits and an RBI for Basic.

Jacob Tanaka had three hits for the Pumas.

Green Valley 3, Palo Verde 2 — At Desert Oasis, Matt Gilbertson singled home Carter Gehlken in the bottom of the seventh to give the Gators the win over the Panthers in the Diamondback Kickoff Tournament.

Gehlken was hit by a pitch to lead off the inning, and Matt Uran and A.J. Amelburu walked to load the bases for Gilbertson, who singled to left to end the game.

Gilbertson was 2-for-4, and Frankie Fitzgerald went 2-for-3 with a double for the Gators.

Ryan Merino went 2-for-3 with two RBIs for Green Valley.

Bishop Manogue 13, Legacy 5 — At Desert Oasis, Michael Davis went 2-for-4 with a double, a triple, two runs and two RBIs to power the Miners over the Longhorns in the Diamondback Kickoff.

Josh Rolling went 2-for-3 with a double, two runs and two RBIs for Manogue.

Legacy’s Donta Williams was 3-for-3 with a double and three runs, and Johnny Ball had a double and two RBIs for the Longhorns. Jordan Crawford went 2-for-4 with a run for Legacy.

Eldorado 7, Chaparral 5 — At Eldorado, the Sundevils rallied for three runs in the bottom of the sixth to top the Cowboys in the championship game of the Sundevil Invitational.

Chaparral led 5-4 going to the bottom of the sixth, but Mario Gonzales singled home Kyle Rizutti and Aaron Rogers to put Eldorado ahead for good.

Gonzales was 2-for-4 with a run and two RBIs, and Jordan Eldred went 3-for-4 with a double and three RBIs for Eldorado. Eldred also closed out the game to earn the save.

Eldorado 7, Tech 1 — At Eldorado, Eldred fired a no-hitter as the Sundevils beat the Roadrunners in the semifinals of the Sundevil Invitational.

Eldred struck out 10 and walked two and needed just 82 pitches.

Gonzales was 2-for-3 with a run and an RBI to lead the Eldorado offense. Tony Sanchez and Rizzuti each added two hits for the Sundevils.

Tech 12, Del Sol 3 — At Chaparral, Oscar Reynoso was 2-for-3 with three RBIs to help the Roadrunners to the five-inning win over the Dragons in the Sundevil Invitational.

Jayce Otis went 3-for-3 with two doubles, two runs and an RBI, and Chandler Gehring was 2-for-3 with two doubles, a run and an RBI for Tech.

Jose Leon went the distance, allowing two earned runs in three hits, to get the win. He struck out five and walked three.

Mojave 10, Del Sol 7 — At Chaparral, Scott Wilson was 2-for-4 with two doubles and an RBI and went the distance to get the win as the Rattlers topped the Dragons in the Sundevil Invitational.

Mojave rallied for six runs in the top of the fifth to take the lead.

Tyler Foreman was 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI for Del Sol.

Eldorado 3, Desert Pines 1 — At Eldorado, Travis Bowe’s two-run double in the bottom of the sixth broke a 1-1 tie as the Sundevils beat the Jaguars in the Sundevil Invitational.

Gonzales was 2-for-3 for Eldorado.

Cimarron-Memorial 8, Syracuse (Utah) 3 — At St. George, Utah, Derek Decolati threw five strong innings and went 2-for-4 with a double, two RBIs and a run to help the Spartans to the win in the K.J. Harrison Classic.

Trevor Doyle was 2-for-3 with two runs, and Noah Parker went 2-for-4 with two runs and an RBI for Cimarron.

Cameron Stafford added two hits for the Spartans.

Decolati allowed three runs on five hits in five innings with seven strikeouts to get the win.

Maple Mountain (Utah) 15, Cimarron-Memorial 3 — At St. George, Utah, the Golden Eagles limited the Spartans to three hits to earn the five-inning win in the K.J. Harrison Classic.

Trevor Doyle went 2-for-2 with a double, a triple a run and an RBI for Cimarron.

Mountain Pointe (Ariz.) 14, Coronado 5 — At Phoenix, Josh Wunnenberg had three hits and three RBIs to lead the Pride by the Cougars in the third-place game of the Boras Classic.

Logan White added two hits and four RBIs for Mountain Pointe, which led 11-3 after three innings.
