BASEBALL: Rogers, Centennial hang on to defeat Legacy

Jake Rogers’ two-out single in the third inning plated courtesy runner Josh Sierra with the eventual winning run Thursday as Centennial’s baseball team nipped visiting Legacy 2-1 in a game shortened to five innings by rain.

Garrett Holden drew a two-out walk and Sierra came on to run. He stole second before scoring on Rogers’ hit to right-center field.

Rogers was 2-for-3 for the Bulldogs.

Holden allowed four hits and no walks in five innings to get the win.

Austin Michals was 1-for-2 with a double and an RBI for the Longhorns.

Arbor View 11, Palo Verde 0 — At Palo Verde, Nick Quintana was 3-for-3 with two doubles, three RBIs and two runs to help the Aggies top the Panthers.

Joe Fitzhugh and Brandon Stevens each went 2-for-4 with two runs and an RBI, and Brady Borden went 3-for-5 with a double and a run for Arbor View.

The Aggies had 11 hits and drew 14 walks.

Austin Pfeifer allowed six hits in six shutout innings to get the win. He struck out six and walked five.

Cobi Fiechtner was 2-for-2 for Palo Verde.

Bishop Gorman 10, Durango 1 — At Durango, Austin Wells had two hits and an RBI, and the Gaels scored all of their runs in the sixth inning to defeat the Trailblazers.

Nicholas Israel and Jorel Hingada each had two hits, and Jordan Sadovia and Nick Hernandez each had three RBIs for Gorman.

Spring Valley 11, Clark 2 — At Spring Valley, Nick Rupp went 3-for-4 with a triple, two doubles and an RBI to help the Grizzlies beat the Chargers in a game that was called in the sixth inning because of rain.

Jonathan Bakken went 3-for-4 with a triple, a double and two RBIs, and winning pitcher Bryce Bullock went 2-for-4 with a three-run home run and three runs scored.

Matthew Thompson went 2-for-3 with an RBI, and teammate Thomas Campbell was 2-for-2 for Clark.

Bonanza at Cimarron-Memorial — At Cimarron, the Bengals and Spartans were tied at 2-2 after six innings when rain halted play.

The teams hope to resume the game next week.

Faith Lutheran at Mojave — At Mojave, the Crusaders led the Rattlers 2-1 in the bottom of the fourth inning when the game was halted by rain.

A completion date was not announced.

Pahrump Valley at Cheyenne — At Cheyenne, the Trojans held an 8-1 lead over the Desert Shields when rain stopped play in the top of the fourth inning.
