BASEBALL: Poole helps Desert Shields slam Chaparral

Winning pitcher Korey Poole went 2-for-3 with a double, a third-inning grand slam and five RBIs Saturday to lift Cheyenne’s baseball team to a 14-2 win at Chaparral in five innings.

Poole, who tossed a four-hitter, broke a 2-2 tie with his grand slam. James Cummings went 2-for-3 with a triple for the Desert Shields.

Connor Jarvis was 2-for-3 for the Cowboys.

Cheyenne 22, Filer (Idaho) 12 — At Cheyenne, Cummings went 3-for-4 with a triple as the Desert Shields outslugged the Wildcats in a six-inning game.

Poole was 2-for-2 with a double for Cheyenne, which trailed 9-7 before scoring five runs in the bottom of the third inning. The Desert Shields ended the game with a nine-run sixth inning.

Canyon Springs 3, Filer (Idaho) 1 — At Canyon Springs, Miguel Smith needed just 79 to pitches to throw a six-hitter and lead the Pioneers by the Wildcats.

Smith struck out four and carried a shutout into the seventh inning.

Sebastian Sotello and Gustavo Hernandez each went 1-for-3 with an RBI for Canyon Springs.

Greeley West (Colo.) 12, Boulder City 9 — At Anaheim, Calif., the Spartans used a 10-run second inning to top the Eagles in the Anaheim Lions Tournament.

Nolan Desantis was 4-for-4 with a double, three runs and an RBI for Boulder City. Zach Murphy was 2-for-4 with an RBI, and Preston Van Diest and Steve Wagner each went 1-for-4 with two RBIs for the Eagles.
