BASEBALL: Pahrump Valley knocks off Mojave for 3A Sunset League title

Garrett Lucas struck out six in 5⅔ innings on Thursday to lead Pahrump Valley’s baseball team to a 5-2 home win over Mojave.

Lucas allowed two runs on five hits to claim the victory that clinched the Class 3A Sunset League title for the Trojans.

Josh Ferrell pitched 1⅓ scoreless innings of relief to get the save.

Dylan Grossell supplied a two-run single as part of a four-run first inning for Pahrump. Anthony Charles had an RBI single, and teammates John MacDonald and Parker Hart each added two hits for the Trojans.

Logan Forepaugh had an RBI single for Mojave.

Chaparral 6, Clark 1 — At Clark, Cowboys pitchers Robert O’Connor and Antonio Vara combined to no-hit the Chargers.

O’Connor pitched the first two innings, and Vara finished the game to earn the win. He fanned seven over five innings.

Jacob Mauro went 2-for-4 with a double and two RBIs to lead the Cowboys.

Talon Greene and Connor Jarvis each doubled and drove in a run, and O’Connor doubled for Chaparral.

Western 6, Cheyenne 4 — At Cheyenne, Tyler Matthews tossed six solid innings, yielding six hits and striking out 11, to earn the win and added two hits at the plate as the Warriors edged the Desert Shields.

Xavier Thomas supplied two hits and three RBIs for Western, which led 4-1 after the first inning.

Mark Gastelum went 3-for-3 with a double, a triple, an RBI and two runs for the Warriors, and Alonzo Thomas and Michael Davison each added two hits for Western.

Titus Quintanilla and Zach Childress each had two hits to pace Cheyenne.

Bishop Gorman 12, Spring Valley 2 — At Spring Valley, Austin Wells was 4-for-4 with a home run, three runs and four RBIs to lead the Gaels past the Grizzlies in five innings.

Jorel Hingada was 3-for-4 with a triple, three runs and two RBIs, and Nick Hernandez was 3-for-4 with a double, a run and two RBIs for Gorman.

Braxton Wehrle doubled twice and drove in three runs for the Gaels.

Vinnie DeCesare allowed one earned run on four hits in four innings to get the win.

Nick Rupp went 2-for-2 with two doubles for Spring Valley.

Sierra Vista 11, Durango 3 — At Sierra Vista, Alex Chavira was 3-for-3 with two runs and two RBIs to lead the Mountain Lions past the Trailblazers.

Josh DeGuzman went 2-for-4 with two runs, and Andrew Carlson drove in two runs for Sierra Vista.

Zachary Kreithe allowed two unearned runs on three hits in six innings to get the win. He struck out eight and walked none.

Richard Mascarenas had a solo home run, and teammate Josh Barry drove in two runs for Durango.

Desert Oasis 12, Bonanza 2 — At Desert Oasis, Kyle Fuentes went 3-for-4 with a double and an RBI to help the Diamondbacks to the five-inning win over the Bengals.

Chaison Miklich allowed two hits in four scoreless innings to get the win. He also doubled for Desert Oasis, which clinched the Southwest League’s No. 2 seed with the win.

Alfred DelSangro also doubled for the Diamondbacks.

Desert Pines 9, Sunrise Mountain 6 — At Desert Pines, Steven Laureano went 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI and the Jaguars scored five runs in the bottom of the sixth to defeat the Miners.

Laureano threw the final two innings to earn the victory.

Cristian Leon had an RBI for Sunrise Mountain.

Foothill 11, Canyon Springs 1 — At Foothill, Ben Gonzalez was 3-for-4 with a triple, two runs and four RBIs to lead the Falcons to the six-inning win over the Pioneers.

Alex Elizondo went 2-for-4 with two doubles, a run and an RBI, and Albert Zarate was 2-for-3 with a triple, a run and two RBIs for Foothill.

Chayse Parenteau, Anthony Pannullo and Kelton Lachelt each had two hits for Foothill.

Tyler Kara went the distance, allowing three hits and fanning five, to get the win.

Trevor Berkemeyer was 1-for-3 with a double and an RBI for Canyon Springs.

Rancho 8, Arbor View 2 — At Arbor View, Jimmy Gamboa went 2-for-2 with a double and two RBIs to lead the Rams past the Aggies.

Joey Walls doubled and drove in a run, Anthony Guzman doubled, and Angel Walker tripled and drove in a run for Rancho, which scored four times in the fourth inning.

Layton Walls fanned seven over 4⅔ innings to pick up the win.

Dylan Anderson had two RBIs for the Aggies.

Calvary Chapel 23-2, Adelson School 15-17 — At Paul Meyer Park, Samuel Shain went 3-for-3 with a double and three RBIs in the nightcap as Adelson School earned a split.

Mordechai Shirit added a double in the second game for Adelson School, which scored 13 runs in the second inning.

Elijah Carrington went 2-for-2 with a double for Calvary Chapel.

Carrington homered in the opener as Calvary Chapel earned the victory.

Shirit went 2-for-5 with two doubles for Adelson School.
