BASEBALL: Kevin Clark’s two-run single lifts Liberty over Utah school

Kevin Clark hit a go-ahead two-run single in the bottom of the sixth inning Wednesday to help Liberty’s baseball team rally for a 4-3 win over visiting West Jordan (Utah) in the Bishop Gorman Desert Classic.

Jacob Rogers doubled twice, and Luis Reyes earned the win in relief for the Patriots, who gave up three runs in the top of the sixth to fall behind 3-1.

Liberty scored three runs in the bottom half of the inning before Michael Wong got a one-out save in relief in the seventh.

Jordan Moreno slugged a solo home run in the fourth for the Patriots.

Dylan Kranz had a two-run triple for West Jordan.

Desert Oasis 2, Tucson (Ariz.) 1 — At the College of Southern Nevada, pinch hitter Kyle Fuentes singled home Brett Brocoff with the winning run in the bottom of the seventh inning as the Diamondbacks rallied past the Badgers in the Bishop Gorman Desert Classic.

Jake Schmidt scored the tying run in the seventh after drawing a walk to reach first base. Schmidt scored on a two-out, RBI double by Brocoff.

Brocoff also pitched the top of the seventh to earn the win, and teammate Aaron Roberts went 3-for-3 for Desert Oasis, which trailed 1-0 after the third inning.

Bishop Gorman 11, Brighton (Utah) 1 — At Gorman, Jorel Hingada was 3-for-3 with a triple, a home run and four RBIs to help the Gaels to the five-inning win over the Bengals in the Bishop Gorman Desert Classic.

John Gaughan was 2-for-2 with two doubles, two runs and two RBIs, and Austin Wells went 2-for-3 with a triple, a run and an RBI for Gorman.

Parker Aquino threw three hitless innings with six strikeouts and four walks to get the win.

Canyon Springs 5, Pahranagat Valley 3 — At Canyon Springs, Trevor Berkemeyer went 2-for-3 and pitched five strong innings to lead the Pioneers over the Panthers.

Berkemeyer gave up two runs on seven hits and struck out three.

Nick Brito was 1-for-3 with a double and two RBIs, and Damien Brown went 1-for-3 with an RBI for Canyon Springs.

Sunrise Mountain 4, Western 0 — At Sunrise Mountain, Roderick Williams spun a two-hit shutout and had a triple to lead the Miners to a victory over the Warriors.

Williams fanned four with two walks.

Cecil Hall was 2-for-3 with a stolen base, and teammate Daltyn Pytrysson provided a double, two walks and two stolen bases for Sunrise Mountain, which led 2-0 after the first inning.

Sebastian Reyes had both of Western’s hits.

Bonanza 14, Durango 3 — At Durango, Julio Seperich went 2-for-3 with a bases-loaded triple, finishing with six RBIs as the Bengals pounded the Trailblazers in five innings.

Danny Ruiz was 2-for-3 with three RBIs, and Torren Brozovich had two hits and two runs for Bonanza, which led 9-3 after two innings.

Richard Mascarenas went 2-for-3 with a double, and Justin Lucas hit a double for Durango.

Mojave 13, Desert Pines 3 — At Desert Pines, Scotty Wilson went 4-for-4 with a double, four runs and an RBI, and Andrew Foley was 3-for-4 with a double, two RBIs and three runs to lead the Rattlers to a five-inning rout of the Jaguars.

Winning pitcher Elijah Glaze gave up only four singles and struck out four for Mojave.

Cesar Bailon went 2-for-2 with two stolen bases for Desert Pines.

Pahrump Valley 14, Cheyenne 3 — At Pahrump, Willie Lucas went 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI, and Parker Hart had a two-run single to help power the Trojans to a five-inning win over the Desert Shields.

Garrett Lucas had two hits and an RBI, and winning pitcher Bradda Costa fanned six over five innings for Pahrump Valley, which jumped out to a 9-0 first inning lead.

Christopher Rose doubled and homered, and Justin Gonzalez had a double for Cheyenne.
