BASEBALL: Jonathan Bakken homers twice as Spring Valley wins Grizzly Invitational

Jonathan Bakken was 2-for-3 with two homers and five RBIs as Spring Valley’s baseball team beat visiting Moapa Valley 13-0 on Wednesday.

The win gave the Grizzlies a 4-0 record in the Grizzly Invitational to win the tournament title.

Jaxson Otis was 2-for-3 with a double and two RBIs, and Kade Higgins went 2-for-3 for Spring Valley, which scored six runs in the second to pull away.

Jaxson Otis, Jack Sellinger and Braxton Bruschke combined on a on-hitter. Otis threw three innings to get the win.

Bonanza 9, Legacy 5 — At Spring Valley, Jay DeSoto was 3-for-4 with a triple, double and two runs as the Bengals took down the Longhorns in the Grizzly Classic.

Brandon Rivera tripled for the Bengals, Torren Brozovich doubled, and Nick DeSoto had two RBIs.

Donta Williams was 3-for-3 with a double and a triple for Legacy, and Brandon Ahumada was 3-for-3 with a triple, an RBI and a run for the Longhorns.

Moapa Valley 21, Boulder City 8 — At Spring Valley, the Pirates sent 21 batters to the plate in the fourth inning, scoring 16 runs to earn the victory in the Grizzly Invitational.

Moapa Valley took advantage of nine walks and four hit batters in the fourth inning.

Daxton Longman went 3-for-3 with a triple, three runs and four RBIs, and Dayton Wolfley was 3-for-e with a triple, four runs and two RBIs for the Pirates.

Boulder City’s Anthony Pacifico was 2-for-3 with a double and three RBIs. Rhett Armstrong and D.J. Reese each added two hits for the Eagles.

Bishop Gorman 4, La Costa Canyon (Calif.) 0 — At Encinitas, California, Jarod Billig fired a no-hitter as the Gaels beat the Mavericks in the Lions Tournament.

Billig struck out three and walked one.

Jorel Hingada 2as 2-for-3 with a double, a run and an RBI to lead the offense for Gorman, which scored all four runs in the third inning. Austin Wells was 2-for-4 with a run and an RBI, and Jordan Sadovia went 2-for-4 for the Gaels.

Desert Oasis 7, Scripps Ranch (Calif.) 2 — At San Diego, Brett Brocoff had a triple and four RBIs to power the Diamodnbacks past the xyxyx in the Lions Tournament.

Aaron Roberts was 3-for-3 wtih a double, and Andrew Martinez went 2-for-4 for Desert Oasis, which scored five runs in the second inning to take control.

St. Augustine (Calif.) 3, Silverado 2 — At San Diego, Ruben Flores hit a sacrifice fly with one out in the bottom of the eighth inning to give the Saints the win over the Skyhawks in the Lions Tournament.

Dax Fellows went 2-for-4 with a run for Silverado, and teammate Payton Ballard had an RBI double.

Thousand Oaks (Calif.) 14, Foothill 1 — At Lakeside, California, Matto Ottino was 3-for-5 with a triple, three RBIs and two runs as the Lancers beat the Falcons in the Lions Tournament.

Shawn Power was 3-for-5 with two runs and two RBIs for Thousand Oaks, which hit four triples.

Gage Streit was 1-for-2 with a run for Foothill.

Agoura (Calif.) 5, Green Valley 3 — At Encinitas, California, the Chargers scored two runs in the top of the seventh to earn the win over the Gators in the Lions Tournament.

Green Valley’s A.J. Amelburu had scored on an error in the bottom of the sixth to tie the game.

Drake Maningo was 2-for-3 with a double for Green Valley. He also threw six strong innings, allowing three runs on seven hits.

Coronado 11, Esperanza (Calif.) 8 — At Fullerton, California, Noah Hemphill was 3-for-4 with a double, and Zach Hose had two hits and three RBIs to power the Cougars to the win in the National Classic.

Cristian Herrera and Landen Rowland each drove in two runs for Coronado, and Garett Lake went 2-for-3 with two doubles for the Cougars.
