BASEBALL: Coronado takes advantage of walks, tops Bishop Gorman

Coronado’s baseball team scored seven runs in the second inning on Monday and held on for an 8-7 road win over second-ranked Bishop Gorman.

The sixth-ranked Cougars had just four hits, but were helped by 11 walks and a hit batter.

Seven of those walks came in the second inning when Coronado scored three times on bases-loaded walks.

Jake McLean and Landon Rowland each drove in two runs for the Cougars. Reliever Ryan Murphy struck out three in two hitless innings to get the save.

Austin Wells was 2-for-4 with two doubles, two runs and two RBIs for the Gaels.

Desert Pines 2, Virgin Valley 1 — At Desert Pines, catcher Juan Castaneda hit a two-run home run in the bottom of the sixth inning to help the Jaguars defeat the Bulldogs in a pitchers’ duel.

Castaneda’s batterymate, Raymond Minero, picked up the win after fanning eight and walking one in his one-hitter.

Cade Anderson had an RBI single in the first inning for Virgin Valley, and Dillan Fuqua struck out six and allowed just four hits in six innings.

Palo Verde 16, Arbor View 10 — At Arbor View, Chandler Kochan and Jaret Godman each went 4-for-5 with four RBIs as the Panthers outslugged the Aggies.

Kochan had two doubles and a home run, and Godman doubled three times for Palo Verde, which had 16 hits.

Ryan Merino went 3-for-5 with three doubles, three runs and an RBI, and Tyler Kim and Asher Bouldin each drove in two runs for the Panthers.

Arbor View’s Nick Cornman was 3-for-5 with a triple and three RBIs, and Joe Fitzhugh went 2-for-3 with a double a run and an RBI for the Aggies.

Cimarron-Memorial 12, Shadow Ridge 5 — At Shadow Ridge, Seth Hoffman hit a three-run homer to highlight a five-run first inning as the Spartans beat the Mustangs.

Zach Culver and Noah Parker each went 2-for-5 with two RBIs for Cimarron, and Trevor Doyle was 2-for-5 with a double for the Spartans.

Shadow Ridge’s Justin Lee was 3-for-4 with two doubles, a triple, two runs and an RBI. Bryan Trujillo went 2-for-4 with a triple and a run, and Jesse Meyer was 2-for-2 with a double for the Mustangs.

Pahrump Valley 9, Chaparral 3 — At Pahrump, Garrett Lucas struck out seven to lead the Trojans past the Cowboys.

Parker Hart went 1-for-2 with a double, two RBIs and three runs for the Pahrump. Anthony Charles was 2-for-4 for the Trojans.

James Cobian went 3-for-3, and teammate Connor Jarvis went 3-for-4 to lead Chaparral.

Centennial 15, Legacy 2 — At Legacy, Jake Rogers was 3-for-5 with a triple, two runs and three RBIs as the Bulldogs defeated the Longhorns in six innings.

Austin Kryszczuk was 1-for-3 with a double, two RBIs and three runs, and Garrett Holden went 2-for-3 with two RBIs for Centennial, which drew 16 walks.

Diego Portillo and Johnny Ball each went 2-for-3 for Legacy.

Del Sol 14, Sunrise Mountain 8 — At Sunrise Mountain, Phil Talamo went 4-for-5 with a double, two triples and five RBIs to lead the Dragons past the Miners.

Gelkis Digurnay was 4-for-5 with two doubles and four RBIs, and teammate Brady Walton doubled for Del Sol.

Earl Garrett had two doubles to lead Sunrise Mountain.

Donovan Hansen doubled, and Brian Ruiz and Eddie Casado each tripled for the Miners.

Tech 18, Cheyenne 0 — At Cheyenne, Trevor Kephart was 3-for-3 with a double, a home run, three runs and four RBIs as the Roadrunners routed the Desert Shields in three innings.

Sean Jones was 2-for-4 with three RBIs for Tech, and teammate Jose Leon went 2-for-2 with a double, an RBI and two runs.

Gabe Kermode threw a one-hitter with eight strikeouts to get the win.

Boulder City 21, Mojave 7 — At Mojave, the Eagles scored 17 runs in the top of the fifth en route to the five-inning win.

Jake Hubel, Anthony Pacifico, Sean Jones and D.J. Reese each drove in four runs for Boulder City.

Reese was 4-for-4 with a double and a triple, Jones went 3-for-3 with a double, Pacifico was 3-for-4 with two triples and Hubel was 2-for-4 with two doubles.

Toddy Lobkowicz was 3-for-4 with three runs and two RBIs for the Eagles.

Mike Cianci went 3-for-4 with a triple, three RBIs and two runs to lead Mojave. Sora Tajima added a double, a triple, an RBI and a run for the Rattlers.

Moapa Valley 14, Western 2 — At Western, the Pirates exploded for 10 runs in the fourth inning to beat the Warriors in five innings.

Anthony Cornwall and Dayton Wolfley each doubled for the Pirates, and Daxton Longman had a triple.

Spring Valley 11, Northridge (Colo.) 4 — At Spring Valley, Jaxson Otis was 3-for-4 with a triple, a home run and four RBIs as Spring Valley defeated Northridge.

Jack Sellinger was 2-for-2 with an RBI, and Nick Rupp went 2-for-4 with a triple for Spring Valley, which scored five runs in the bottom of the first.

Jonathan Bakken drove in two runs for Spring Valley.

Needles 15, Mohave Accelerated (Ariz.) 5 — At Needles, California, Ezrah Ponce went 2-for-3 with four RBIs to help the Mustangs to the five-inning win.

Dillon Darrow was 2-for-2 with three RBIs, and Jayden Yeager went 2-for-4 with a triple and three RBIs for Needles.

Reid Shaver got the victory and went 3-for-4 with a double and an RBI for the Mustangs.

Lake Mead 21, Adelson School 1 — At Oxford Park, Zack Brocker hit a grand slam, and the Eagles scored 12 runs in the top of the fourth in a four-inning win over the Lions.

Brocker was 2-for-4, and Mitch Dolinar went 4-for-4 with a two-run homer for Lake Mead.
