BASEBALL: Cooper Kitrel sparks Sierra Vista’s extra-inning win

Cooper Kitrel’s two-out, two-run single in the top of the eighth inning broke a scoreless tie, and the Sierra Vista baseball team scored four more runs to beat Bonanza on the road Wednesday, 6-1.

Hunter Wood and Josh DeGuzman each added an RBI single, and Sierra Vista added runs on a wild pitch and an error.

Kitrell was 2-for-3 with a run, and Chafton Temple went 2-for-5 with a double for Sierra Vista.

Mountain Lions’ starter Alex Chavira took a shutout into the bottom of the eight before giving up two singles and a double. He allowed five hits, struck out five and walked one. Nicholas Morice got the final three outs, striking out two, to end the game.

Tech 12, Desert Pines 11 — At Tech, Jose Leon had a walk-off single that scored Jayce Otis and Trevor Kephart in the bottom of the seventh inning to give the Roadrunners the victory over the Jaguars.

Gabe Kermode smacked a grand slam to tie it at 10-10 in the sixth inning for Tech, which got two hits apiece from Otis, Drew Cole and Jason Collingbourne. Kephart earned the win in relief for the Roadrunners.

Juan Castaneda was 4-for-4 with a two-run double, and teammates Raymond Minero and James Greach each added three hits for Desert Pines.

Chaparral 11, Sunrise Mountain 0 — At Chaparral, James Cobian spun a five-inning no-hitter as the Cowboys blanked the Miners.

Jacob Mauro was 2-for-3 with a run, and teammate Thomas Pablo supplied an RBI single, two runs and two stolen bases for Chaparral. Erick Villarreal had an RBI double for the Cowboys.

Boulder City 12, Pahrump Valley 5 — At Boulder City, Noah Higgins went 3-for-4 with three RBIs and two runs scored to power the Eagles over the Spartans.

Higgins also got the win, pitching 4 ⅔ innings with five strikeouts and no earned runs allowed. Teammates Anthony Pacifico and Aaron Kehoe each scored two runs.

Garrett Lucas tripled and scored a run for Pahrump.

Desert Oasis 13, Clark 3 — At Desert Oasis, Chaison Miklich tossed 4 ⅓ innings with nine strikeouts to earn the win and was 2-for-3 with a double, a home run, four RBIs and three runs to power the Diamondbacks past the Chargers in six innings.

Cole Schaefer and Nic Lane each supplied two hits for Desert Oasis, which scored four runs in the first inning and five runs in the sixth.

Garrett Woodford led Clark with a double, a triple, an RBI and a run.

Moapa Valley 18, Cheyenne 8 — At Overton, Colby Longman hit a two-run home run and a run-scoring single to help drive the Pirates past the Desert Shields in five innings.

Drake Staheli, Daxton Longman and Hunter Wininski each hit a double, and Tyler Peterson supplied a triple for Moapa Valley, which led 11-3 after three innings.

Del Sol 20, Western 5 — At Del Sol, Phil Talamo went 4-for-4 with a double and four RBIs, and Jose Galacia was 2-for-3 with a double and two RBIs to power the Dragons to a three-inning rout of the Warriors.

Winning pitcher Gelkis Digurnay was 3-for-4 with three RBIs, and Tyler Foreman and Mike Hutchinson each supplied two hits for Del Sol, which jumped out to a 9-0 first-inning lead.

Mojave 7, Virgin Valley 6 — At Mesquite, the Rattlers scored seven runs in the first two innings and held off the Bulldogs.

Devin Johnson had two hits, a run and a stolen base to lead Mojave. Winning pitcher Elijah Glaze added a double, an RBI and two runs for the Rattlers.

Virgin Valley’s Dallan Tanner drove in two runs, and teammate Layton Woods had three hits.
