Aggies score four in 10th to take Steven Janvrin title at Blazer Bash

Arbor View scored four runs in the top of the 10th on Wednesday to down Cimarron-Memorial 13-9 in the Steven Janvrin Championship game of the Blazer Spring Bash at Durango.

Gabe Gonzalez started the rally with a single to center and came around to score on a double by freshman Joe Fitzhugh.

Kaid Urban and Quinn Gallagher added RBI singles, and a run scored on a passed ball.

“We got a couple nice hits and we were able to capitalize on a couple mistakes,” Arbor View coach Jay Guest said.

The Aggies scored thee runs in the sixth to take an 8-6 lead, but Niko Decolati’s two-out, two-run homer in the bottom of the seventh forced extra innings.

Arbor View took a 9-8 lead in the eighth, but the Spartans again tied the game in the bottom of the inning.

“The kids are competing,” Guest said. “It was a championship game, and neither team wanted to lose. Luckily w were able to put up a four spot at the end and get it done.”

Gonzalez went 3-for-5 with a home run, two runs and two RBIs for the Aggies, who had 21 hits.

Nick Quintana doubled and homered, and Urban and Gallagher each had three hits. Urban also drove in three runs, and Gallagher had two RBIs.

Ryan Brown threw two hitless innings of relief with two strikeouts to earn the win.

“We grew up a lot this week,” Guest said. “We’re starting to find our own identity now, and finally starting to buy into what we’re trying to teach them. We’ve come a long way these past two weeks, especially in this tournament.

“Now we go back to our league and build on what we did and continue to play tough, Aggie baseball. If we play like we have these last two weeks, we’ve got a pretty good chance to do some damage and make some noise at the end.”

Cimarron’s Decolati went 3-for-4 with a triple, a homer, two runs and three RBIs.

Arbor View 7, Centennial 6 — At Durango, Gabe Gonzalez’s RBI single in the top of the seventh plated Kevin Johns with the go-ahead run as the Aggies rallied past the Bulldogs in a semifinal.

With Arbor View trailing 6-5, Nick Quintana drew a walk to lead off the seventh. Johns was hit by a pitch. Two wild pitches brought Quintana home before Gonzalez’s hit.

Gonzalez was 2-for-4 with a double and two RBIs for the Aggies.

Kyle Horton was 3-for-4 with three RBIs, and Josh McKibbin was 3-for-3 for Centennial.

Cimarron-Memorial 9, Las Vegas 3 — At Durango, Tyler Giovinco went 2-for-3 with two RBIs, and the Spartans used a five-run first inning to down the Wildcats in a semifinal.

Alexander Marco was 2-for-3 with an RBI for Cimarron, which scored three runs in the sixth to put the game away.

Jared Herrera was 2-for-3 for Las Vegas.
